Mandate
BMO Capital Markets is seeking a Vice President, Business Management, Global Fixed Income to support the continued growth and operational excellence of our Global Fixed Income (GFI) business.
This is a front-office role at the center of the franchise. Working directly with — and as the principal deputy to — the Managing Director, Strategy & Business Management, the Vice President will independently own a substantial portion of the GFI business management agenda: performance reporting and analysis, business planning, governance and control processes, cross-functional issue resolution, and execution of strategic initiatives. The role provides direct exposure to the Co-Heads of GFI and the broader GFI leadership team, including partnering with senior executives across Rates, Credit, FX, Securitized Products, Debt Capital Markets, Electronic Trading, and XVA.
The successful candidate will combine strong commercial acumen, exceptional organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders across a highly matrixed global organization. The Vice President will be expected to take ambiguous problems, define the work, drive it to resolution, and escalate with facts, options, and a recommendation.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Co-Heads of Global Fixed Income
- Serve as a trusted strategic partner to the Co-Heads of GFI.
- Prepare executive briefing materials, talking points, communications, presentations, and business updates for internal and external stakeholders.
- Track commitments, decisions, and action items from senior leadership discussions and ensure timely follow-through.
- Anticipate issues, identify emerging risks, and proactively escalate matters requiring executive attention.
- Coordinate GFI leadership offsites, town halls, employee engagement activities, and executive communications.
Business Performance & Management Reporting
- Own the recurring GFI management reporting cycle, including daily and monthly P&L reporting, business review materials, monthly and quarterly commentary, and working with the Business Coordinator to populate and maintain KPIs and league tables.
- undefined
- Investigate variances, discrepancies, and anomalies independently — identifying the driver, engaging the relevant desk or support function, and resolving or escalating with a clear explanation.
- undefined
- Maintain and improve the underlying data, models, and internal financial files supporting GFI reporting, with rigorous attention to accuracy, methodology, and version control.
- undefined
- Develop a working understanding of how the numbers are constructed. Investigate large period-over-period jumps and estimate vs. actual discrepancies in financials, identify and run to ground cost savings opportunities, expense misallocations, issues with P&L calculations, etc.
Business Execution & Operational Excellence
- Support strategic growth initiatives and new product launches across the GFI platform.
- Partner with Sales, Trading, Structuring, Technology, and Operations to translate front-office requirements into scalable technology and process improvements.
- Drive automation, controls enhancement, workflow optimization, and other initiatives that improve efficiency, reduce operational risk, and enhance the client experience.
- Own routine business infrastructure requests, including new portfolio and cost center set ups.
- Represent GFI Front Office in initiatives that span across businesses, including regulatory inquiries, risk management buildouts, new infrastructure.
Strategic Planning and Executive Governance
- Support the MD, Strategy & Business Management in shaping and executing the GFI strategic agenda, translating enterprise and business priorities into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
- Conduct market, competitor, and industry analysis to identify opportunities, risks, and actions to improve business performance and client outcomes.
- Lead preparation of materials for executive committees, P&L walkthroughs, management committees, board reporting, regulatory reviews, and senior leadership meetings.
- Track key initiatives and franchise priorities, highlighting progress, dependencies, risks, and required decisions.
Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships across Front Office, Operations, Technology, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Corporate Functions.
- Facilitate communication and issue resolution across regions and functional teams.
- Represent business priorities in cross-functional working groups, governance committees, and project forums.
Qualifications
Required
- 5-8+ years of experience in Global Markets, Investment & Corporate Banking or Management Consulting.
- Experience supporting senior executives and operating effectively within a complex global organization.
- Demonstrated ability to own workstreams end-to-end with limited supervision, and to operate effectively with competing priorities and incomplete information.
- Demonstrated success leading strategic initiatives and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of executive and board-level materials.
- Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively under pressure.
- Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel. The candidate will need to be able to draft business plan pitch decks that tell a story as opposed to simply stating facts, and build excel models with limited information.
Preferred
- Working knowledge of fixed income products and the trade lifecycle across rates, credit, securitized products, or FX.
- Familiarity with front-office risk, P&L, and booking systems, and with regulatory and capital concepts relevant to a dealer business.
- SQL, Power BI, Power Query, or comparable data and automation skills.
Success Measures
The successful candidate will:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Co-Heads of Global Fixed Income and the MD, Strategy & Business Management, Global Fixed Income.
- Measurably increase the MD's capacity to focus on strategic priorities and the most complex escalations.
- Assume full ownership of the recurring GFI reporting and business management calendar, delivered accurately and on time with minimal MD involvement.
- Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of executive decision-making and governance.
- Exhibit curiosity in understanding the mechanics of operations, how metrics are calculated, and why processes are implemented the way they are
- Deliver high-quality insights and materials that support informed strategic decisions, including iterating quickly on materials to ensure quick feedback cycles.
- Drive execution of franchise priorities while strengthening alignment, accountability, operational discipline, and employee engagement across the leadership team.
