Job Purpose
The Laboratory Technician will support the Central Laboratory team by carrying out routine laboratory testing, equipment calibrations, sample preparation, inventory management, and data recording activities. The role contributes to maintaining product quality standards while ensuring compliance with laboratory quality systems, health and safety requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform calibrations and routine checks of laboratory equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Conduct wet chemistry analysis on product and quality control samples.
- Carry out analytical testing to support quality control and co-packer requirements.
- Support the maintenance of chemical inventories, laboratory consumables, and retained sample stocks.
- Assist with sample preparation and solution preparation for laboratory testing activities.
- Prepare samples for sensory evaluation activities.
- Accurately record laboratory results and maintain laboratory documentation.
- Enter sample information and analytical results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Maintain laboratory housekeeping standards and support 5S practices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
- Work in accordance with the Central Laboratory Quality Management System and ISO quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with all site health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Food Science, or a related scientific discipline.
- Laboratory experience gained through industry, internships, placements, research projects, or academic studies.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Good planning, organisational, and time management skills.
- Strong numerical and IT skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow laboratory procedures, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.
Desirable
- Experience working in a quality control, manufacturing, food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or regulated laboratory environment.
- Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Knowledge of ISO quality standards or laboratory quality management systems.
- Familiarity with wet chemistry techniques and laboratory equipment calibration.
- Understanding of laboratory housekeeping, 5S principles, and continuous improvement practices.
