The Senior Specialist, Risk Modeling role sits within BNY’s largest modeling organization. The successful candidate will join the Economic Capital Modeling team, supporting ICAAP/ICARA processes and providing end-to-end support for models that inform key management decisions and are regularly reported to Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
This role is expected to be performed in adherence with corporate-wide standards for model development and industry best practices. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying problems that can be addressed through the application of financial theory and quantitative methods, including evaluating and selecting appropriate modeling frameworks and determining the scope of solutions. The candidate is also expected to use AI responsibly and thoughtfully in support of their work.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways
- Develop and implement modeling solutions in line with technical direction, ensuring the accuracy and soundness of quantitative methods within the assigned area.
- Conduct independent research and data analysis to address stakeholder inquiries and support decision-making.
- Support senior modelers in both business-as-usual activities and longer-term strategic projects.
- Apply advanced AI tools to streamline, enhance, and automate processes where appropriate.
- Engage directly with stakeholders to understand needs, communicate findings, and provide modeling support.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following
- Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative discipline such as engineering, mathematics, physics, statistics, or economics.
- Strong theoretical foundation combined with solid programming, documentation, and communication skills.
- At least 1 year of modeling-related experience, preferably in financial services.
- Experience with stochastic processes, numerical analysis, and computational methods using programming languages, preferably Python, as well as mathematical and statistical software packages.
- Familiarity with AI frameworks and a strong commitment to responsible AI use.
- Strong attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and a highly focused, analytical mindset.
