Project (Safety Officer) – Fixed Term Contract

In this role you will be responsible for:
- The successful candidate will be reporting to the Superintendent (HSEC).
- Key responsibilities of this position are to promote the Health and Safety management system, processes, policies, procedures and resources in line with the Mine Health and safety Act (MHSA) and company standards and other requirements
- Take cognisance of applicable legislation and best practice principles to perform daily health and safety activities of the operation in a responsible manner with quality, consistency, legal compliance and quantity of work as priority.
- Conducting and coordinating accident and incident investigations, Compiling accurate reports on the Isometrix system
- Monitor and verifying that corrective and preventative actions are implemented to prevent reoccurrence incident.
- Maintain & promote a Health and Safety Management System.
- Supporting and coaching line managers and employees on safework practices, hazard awareness and behavioural safety.
- To ensure compliance with the health and safety requirements at the mine.
About you:
- Grade 12
- Diploma in Safety management.
- COMSOC I & II.
- NEBOSH or SAMTRAC Certificate.
- At least 5 – 10 years’ previous experience in the construction industry as a Safety Officer.
- Previous experience within a mining environment as a safety officer will be highly advantageous.
- Have working at heights experience. (Training will be an advantage).
- Must have construction safety experience to complete risk assessments.
- Must have experience to do GCOMs to coach and upskilling team members in Glencore HSEC systems and procedures, modular plant construction, behavioural bases safety approach to HSEC.
- Must be a team player and be able to work well with others in coaching, guiding and development of team members.
- Have experience with incident investigations.
- Lead and attend HSEC meetings.
- Assess construction activities and control high risk verification work.
- Knowledge of high hazard work permits.
- Experience with the compilation and revision of standards, safe work procedures, managerial instructions, safety alerts, safety topics and training material.
- Compile/verify monthly HSEC reports.
- Computer Literacy.
- Driver’s License and own transport.
- Must be a team player and be able to work well with others.
- Ability to function independently.
- Must be prepared to work overtime if required.
- Medically fit.
