POSITION SUMMARY
The Junior AML/KYC Specialist will be a key member of the Luxembourg KYC team, supporting the platform teams, including Legal and Compliance, with AML/KYC requests relating to platform entities and transactions. The role provides broad exposure to Carlyle’s Luxembourg investment platform and offers an early-career professional the opportunity to develop practical AML/KYC expertise across different investment strategies and structures.
Working under the guidance of more senior team members, the role will support day-to-day due diligence, document collection and review, screening, risk assessments, reporting and first-line controls while progressively developing greater autonomy and responsibility.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Description
AML/KYC
- Support KYC onboarding and periodic reviews of counterparties, investors, co-investors, service providers and other business relationships.
- Collect, review and maintain KYC documentation, including corporate documents, ownership structures, identification documents, UBO information, AML letters and tax-related documentation, where applicable.
- Support the identification and verification of beneficial owners (UBOs), including the review of ownership and control structures.
- Perform initial AML/KYC checks and escalate complex issues to the AML/KYC Team Leader or senior team members.
- Conduct screening of entities and individuals for sanctions, PEPs and adverse media, and document the results in the relevant systems.
- Support AML/KYC risk assessments and ensure that relevant information is properly recorded. Perform and document first-line AML/KYC controls in accordance with internal procedures, with appropriate escalation of exceptions or higher-risk matters.
- Follow up on outstanding KYC documentation with internal teams, counterparties and service providers.
- Support the handling of inbound AML/KYC requests from counterparties, and coordinate responses, escalating to senior team members where appropriate.
- Prepare standard AML/KYC documentation and responses, including questionnaires, KYC forms and supporting documentation.
- Identify and escalate missing documentation, screening alerts, inconsistencies and higher-risk matters to the AML/KYC Team Leader or senior team members.
- Work closely with Legal, Compliance, Fund Management and other internal teams on AML/KYC-related matters.
- Ensure activities are performed in accordance with Carlyle’s internal AML/KYC procedures and applicable Luxembourg AML/CFT requirements. Maintain accurate and up-to-date AML/KYC information and documentation in the relevant systems and trackers. Contribute to the continuous improvement of AML/ KYC processes, including the effective use of internal systems, automation tools an standardized documentation.
Regulatory
- Support the AML/KYC team with ad-hoc AML/KYC, compliance and regulatory projects.
- Assist on developing awareness of Luxembourg AML/KYC requirements, internal procedures and relevant market practices.
Administrative
- Support administrative and corporate secretarial activities relating to Luxembourg platform entities, including document preparation, collection, filing and maintenance of corporate records.
Daily QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge and Experience
- Approximately 1-2 years of relevant professional experience in AML/KYC, compliance or a related field, ideally within an investment firm, financial services firm, law firm, professional services firm or AML/KYC audit environment.
- Basic understanding of AML/KYC principles and the Luxembourg AML/KYC regulatory framework.
- An understanding of private equity, real assets, and/or credit investment structures and their legal and administrative environment would be an advantage.
- Fluency in English is required; French would be an advantage.
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or another relevant field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Any other AML/KYC/CFT and Compliance certification is considered as an advantage.
