About this position

The IDB Group is looking for an active graduate student to be hired as an intern under the Consultant modality. 

The 2027 Winter Internship Program is a competitive paid opportunity, based in Headquarters, for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning.

The Institutional Capacity of the State Division (ICS) is seeking a graduate intern to support its Transparency and Integrity thematic area in developing an innovative, web-based analytical tool for Latin America and the Caribbean. The assignment will contribute to the Bank’s efforts to strengthen evidence-based policy dialogue and operational engagement on transparency, integrity, financial integrity, and state effectiveness.

Building off the team’s existing diagnostic tools, the intern will develop a working proof of concept for an interactive regional dashboard that brings together internationally recognized indicators and secondary evidence on countries’ transparency and integrity systems. The tool will organize information across three analytical dimensions: enabling conditions, institutional capacity, and risk management. It will allow users to explore country profiles, compare selected countries and indicators, examine trends, and access the underlying sources and methodological information.

The dashboard will also support the production of Country Integrity Snapshots, concise analytical briefs that synthesize the available evidence into accessible country-level profiles. The assignment will draw on the team’s existing analytical work, remain distinct from a full diagnostic assessment.

The internship offers an opportunity to combine applied data science, interactive visualization, and institutional analysis in a practical development context. The successful candidate will work with Bank specialists to translate an existing analytical concept into a functional prototype that can demonstrate the value of integrated country evidence and provide a foundation for potential future development.

What you’ll do

• Compile, validate, and structure the agreed international indicators and secondary evidence for selected countries, including source metadata, definitions, and methodological limitations.
• Develop a working web dashboard proof of concept that enables interactive exploration of country profiles, selected indicators, trends, and cross-country comparisons.
• Integrate source documentation and develop functionality to generate or export standardized Country Integrity Snapshots from the underlying data.
• Prepare concise, evidence-based interpretations of country patterns and demonstrate how the tool can support regional analysis, policy dialogue, and further country-level assessment.
• Deliver the functional prototype, supporting data and code, technical documentation, and a final demonstration with recommendations for potential future development.

What you'll need

• Education: An active graduate student (master’s or Ph.D.) student in Data Science, Computer Science, Computational Social Science, Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, International Development, Information Systems, or a closely related field from an accredited University. The graduation date should be after the Internship period.
• Languages: Fluency in English with a working knowledge of one other Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is a plus.
• Key Skills: Learn continuously, collaborate and share knowledge, focus on clients, communicate and influence, innovate and try new things
• Soft Skills: Result-driven, collaborative, innovative, client-oriented, strong communicator, self-motivated, eager to learn, and excellent time management skills.
• Technical skills: Strong analytical and communication skills, with familiarity with transparency, integrity, anti-corruption, financial integrity, and international development; ability to integrate data from multiple sources and develop user-friendly analytical products, with experience in interactive dashboards, Python or R, and AI-assisted tools desirable.

Requirements

• Citizenship: Be a national of an IDB member country.
• Active student: Enrolled in a graduate (master’s or Ph.D.) program as of the starting date of the internship program. The graduation date should be after the Internship period.
• Consanguinity: Not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB or IDB Invest.
• First job at the IDB Group: Be a first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation (“Corporation” also known as “IDB Invest”). In addition, you have not been a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractor for the Bank or the Corporation, or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality.

• You must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) from January 16th to March 15th, 2027. These dates are fixed and cannot be modified. Interns must complete their assignments within this period.
  • If you are an international student in the U.S.A., your work authorization is through CPT or OPT. Consult your school advisor before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week, many international students are limited to working part-time, depending on their academic standing.
