We are seeking a Senior Engineering Lead to join our AI & Data practice. Based in Sydney or Melbourne, this permanent role sits on our Engineering pathway, a career pathway designed for engineers who want to deepen technical leadership and engineering excellence throughout their careers. You'll lead technical direction across large and complex AI, data and software programs, develop engineering leaders, and help shape how we deliver high-quality outcomes for our clients.

Our AI & Data team comprises more than 500 specialist practitioners across Australia, each of whom are constantly curious and excited about combining their business acumen and technological expertise to create AI and data-centric solutions that help solve complex problems and transform or reinvent our clients’ business.
Our AI & Data team work with public and private sector clients, helping them design and implement world-leading solutions and capabilities. From solving air and ground transport network issues through our industry-first Optimal Reality digital twin solution, to bringing automation capabilities to vaccine rollout programs and helping our clients move to a sustainable world, we are the partner of choice for our clients and our alliance vendors.

What will your typical day look like?
You'll lead AI & data engineering across complex or multi-team programs, accountable for technical quality, delivery risk and the engineers you grow.

Technical Direction & Architecture –Define AI, data and software architecture across complex programs, ensuring technology decisions balance scalability, reliability, security, cost, responsible AI and delivery outcomes.

Staying Hands-On – Maintain technical depth through key designs, critical decisions and reviews of the most important architectural, engineering and AI implementation choices.

Leading Engineering Teams – Lead and develop AI & Data Engineering Leads across multiple teams, creating clarity of expectations, coaching for growth and accountability for engineering quality and AI-first delivery practices.

Client & Stakeholder Leadership – Engage senior client stakeholders on technical direction, trade-offs and delivery risk.

Engineering Methods & Quality – Establish engineering practices, quality controls and delivery standards that enable teams to build secure, reliable and maintainable solutions at scale.

AI-Enabled Delivery – Drive adoption of AI-first engineering practices and developer tooling to lift efficiency, quality and consistency across teams.

Growing the Practice – Shape proposals and pursuits, and build Deloitte's scaled engineering practice through assets, patterns and coaching.
Enough about us, let's talk about you.
You may have all or some of the following skills and experiences:

8+ years' experience in software, data or AI engineering, including leadership of engineering teams or complex technology programs.

Strong software engineering background with hands-on experience designing and delivering cloud-native, data, AI and agent-enabled solutions.

Proven experience defining architecture and guiding AI and data engineering decisions across multiple teams, balancing scalability, security, reliability, cost and responsible AI considerations.

Experience leading Agile delivery across large or multi-team programs using modern engineering and AI-assisted delivery practices.

Ability to influence business and technology stakeholders on architecture, delivery and investment decisions through clear communication of trade-offs and outcomes.

Track record of coaching engineers and emerging engineering leaders, building high-performing teams and a culture of engineering excellence and continuous innovation.
Nice to have:

Experience shaping proposals, solution architectures or pursuits for complex technology initiatives.

Experience building and operating AI-enabled applications, data products or agentic workflows in production environments.
