The Head of Human Resources, Brazil is responsible for leading Scotiabank's Human Resources function in Brazil, ensuring people strategies, programs, and initiatives support business objectives while aligning with local regulatory requirements and global HR priorities. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, HR Business Partner, International Banking, with a dotted-line relationship to the Country Head, Brazil, the role serves as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders and a key member of the local leadership team.
The Head of HR provides leadership across all people-related priorities in the market, balancing local business objectives, regulatory requirements, and global HR strategies. The successful candidate will bring deep Human Resources expertise, strong business acumen, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders while leading a high-performing HR function in a complex and highly regulated environment.
Accountabilities
- Lead and drive a customer-focused culture throughout the team to deepen relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Provide strategic HR leadership to the Brazil organization, ensuring people strategies align with business objectives and global HR priorities.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders on workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, talent acquisition, retention, succession planning, compensation, and employee development.
- Participate in strategic planning and decision-making as a member of the local Executive Committee, providing guidance on workforce and organizational matters.
- Lead the Human Capital Committee, facilitating discussions related to succession planning, organizational capability, workforce trends, and talent management priorities.
- Lead the Management Compensation Committee, ensuring alignment with global compensation policies, local market practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee all Human Resources activities in Brazil, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compensation administration, employee relations, payroll, and workforce planning.
- Build organizational capability by ensuring the business has the right talent, leadership, structure, and development programs required to achieve strategic objectives.
- Coach and develop leaders across the organization to strengthen management capability, employee engagement, and talent outcomes.
- Provide proactive insights and recommendations based on workforce trends, market developments, and emerging HR best practices.
- Maintain effective relationships with regulators, government agencies, labour organizations, and industry associations, representing Scotiabank on Human Resources matters as required.
- Monitor changes to labour legislation and employment regulations, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to maintain compliance and mitigate risk.
- Support the integration of Brazil's HR function with International Banking and Global Human Resources, promoting consistency, scalability, and operational effectiveness.
- Build, develop, and retain a high-performing HR team through coaching, talent development, succession planning, and inclusive leadership practices.
- Direct day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank's risk culture and relevant risk appetite statements, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Education & Experience
- University degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Professional Human Resources designation is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including significant leadership experience across multiple HR disciplines.
- Experience serving as a trusted advisor to senior executives and business leaders on complex workforce, talent, and organizational matters.
- Strong knowledge of Brazilian labour legislation, employment regulations, and Human Resources practices.
- Experience leading broad Human Resources functions, including talent acquisition, workforce planning, compensation, succession planning, employee relations, leadership development, and HR operations.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute people strategies aligned to business objectives.
- Experience operating within a regulated environment and managing employee, regulatory, and compliance-related matters.
- Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and build credibility with senior stakeholders across business and functional teams.
- Experience building organizational capability and leading change within complex organizations.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and talent development capabilities with a track record of building high-performing teams.
- Experience working with regulators, government agencies, labour organizations, and industry associations.
- Advanced English language proficiency.
