Job Summary

The Manager, Custody Operations Tanzania, will lead and oversee all securities custody processes within our Tanzanian operations . This pivotal role involves ensuring the efficient, accurate, and secure delivery of securities services that meet both client expectations and regulatory standards.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a dedicated custody operations team, fostering a culture of operational excellence, risk awareness, and continuous improvement. Bringing a deep understanding of post-trade securities processes and the Tanzanian market environment, they will act as the central liaison point between clients, internal teams, and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

• Align custody operational practices with the bank's strategic objectives and adapt them effectively to the Tanzanian securities market and regulatory environment.
• Manage and supervise end-to-end custody operations on a day-to-day basis, including securities settlement, corporate actions processing, cash handling, and client instruction management.
• Drive operational scalability by designing and implementing processes to support new products, services, and market developments seamlessly.
• Monitor service quality and operational performance metrics, identifying systemic issues and leading corrective initiatives to enhance reliability and client satisfaction.
• Allocate and optimise resources effectively to manage workload, financial targets, and operational priorities within the custody function.
• Oversee compliance of transactions involving equities, fixed income, money market and cash instruments ensuring strict adherence to internal policies and regulatory mandates.
• Promptly identify and resolve transaction exceptions, escalating risks as appropriate to maintain the highest standards of operational integrity.
• Ensure timely and accurate processing of corporate events, income distributions, and proxy voting activities in accordance with client instructions.
• Manage the account lifecycle, including client onboarding, maintenance, billing, invoicing, and revenue reconciliation to ensure transparency and accuracy.
• Provide swift resolution to client inquiries and complaints by improving service protocols and maintaining open channels of communication.
• Serve as the primary operational contact for custody clients, delivering professional, responsive, and trusted support.
• Establish and nurture collaborative partnerships with internal stakeholders such as business units, compliance, risk management, and technology teams, as well as external entities including brokers, regulators, and auditors.
• Share timely market intelligence, operational updates, and regulatory developments with relevant parties to enhance stakeholder awareness and confidence.
• Represent the custody operations in governance forums, regulatory engagements, and cross-functional meetings, promoting transparency and adherence to governance standards.

Skills and Experience

• Significant experience in custody, securities services or financial markets operations, preferably in a managerial role.
• Strong knowledge of securities settlement, corporate actions, reconciliations, cash processing, static data, billing and client servicing.
• Proven ability to manage service delivery, operational risk, controls, governance and compliance within a regulated financial institution.
• Demonstrated people leadership, coaching and performance management capability.
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills, with experience working across business, technology, risk, compliance and external market entities.
• Experience leading change and continuous improvement to strengthen operational efficiency and service quality.
• Solid knowledge of the Tanzanian securities market and relevant regulatory and conduct requirements.
• Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and the ability to use relevant custody and banking platforms.

Qualifications

• An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related fields.
• Relevant professional certifications or qualifications (e.g., CFA, CISI, CPA, ACCA) are advantageous.
• Completion of any local mandatory regulatory certifications or licences associated with securities operations.
