Legal Entity Controller - Associate (all genders)

Become a part of our high-performing Legal Entity Control team in Germany, where we act as a trusted control partner to the business and core support functions, safeguarding legal entity financial integrity, coordinating cross-functional deliverables, and enabling confident decision-making in a regulated environment.
As an Associate within our Legal Entity Controller team, you will support the controllership governance and operating cadence across close, audit and regulator readiness, and key reporting forums. You will work closely with partners across Finance, Product controllers, Tax, Treasury, Operations, and Risk/Compliance to coordinate deliverables, perform key controls and analyses, and contribute to the timely, accurate delivery of financial and regulatory reporting. The role offers broad exposure to legal entity financial integrity topics in a regulated environment and requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, a structured approach to problem-solving, and the confidence to challenge outputs and escalate issues early.
Job responsibilities
- Prepare, validate, and deliver period-end US GAAP reporting outputs, including financial statement tie-outs and supporting documentation, ensure timely, accurate submission in line with the close calendar and governance forums.
- Coordinate and track the monthly close to hard deadlines, including inter-entity break monitoring and resolution follow-up, unnatural balance monitoring, FX trade-out reviews, and variance/flux analysis, and escalate risks early to enable an accurate, on-time book close.
- Coordinate incremental quarter-end/year-end close requirements, including additional journals, reconciliations/substantiation, governance checkpoints, and deliverable tracking to timeline.
- Coordinate production activities, perform data validation and control checks, manage timeliness tracking, and reconcile regulatory returns to underlying books and records. Support confirmations and reconciliations, maintain documentation, and coordinate tracking of allocation/service-recharge processes.
- Prepare and coordinate senior leadership financial packs and governance materials, validate key figures and narratives, challenge significant movements where appropriate, and deliver clear, timely outputs for relevant forums and stakeholders.
- Investigate breaks/suspense/aged items, support root-cause analysis, coordinate remediation activities with stakeholders, and track actions through to closure with appropriate evidence.
- Support appropriate cut-off, accruals, and documentation for material P&L drivers (activity-dependent).
- Coordinate audit/regulatory requests (including walkthroughs and evidence provision), respond to information requests, and track findings/actions through to closure with appropriate remediation support.
- Strengthen and maintain the control framework in line with Legal Entity Controller standards, including evidence/documentation expectations and timely remediation of control gaps identified through testing, audits, or operational learnings.
- Contribute to process and system change initiatives (e.g., automation/standardization, close workflow enhancements, reporting tooling improvements, system migrations and implementations) by supporting requirements gathering, testing/UAT, cutover and go-live readiness, and implementation tracking.
- Act as a point of contact for defined deliverables during close/reporting periods, run working sessions as needed to resolve breaks and align stakeholders, communicate status clearly, and escalate risks early—especially during peak close/reporting periods.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Strong experience in controllership, legal entity control, and/or financial/regulatory reporting within a regulated financial services environment, with exposure to complex legal entity structures, governance expectations, and a controlled close/reporting operating model.
Strong US GAAP accounting and financial reporting experience and knowledge: hands-on preparation and/or support of reviews across month-end close, balance sheet substantiation, and financial statement tie-outs; able to apply US GAAP to routine and non-routine transactions, assess accounting impacts, and produce clear, audit-ready documentation and support.
Regulatory reporting exposure: experience supporting production, validation, and controls (hands-on execution and/or coordination), including reconciliation to underlying books and records.
Controls mindset: experience driving reconciliation quality and balance sheet substantiation routines and supporting audit issue remediation.
Finance projects / change delivery: experience supporting finance-driven projects and initiatives (e.g., close process improvements, controls remediation programs, reporting improvements, automation/standardization, system/process implementations), including coordination, requirements support, testing/UAT, and implementation tracking.
Good working knowledge of VAT and withholding tax: understanding of core concepts and common finance touchpoints (e.g., invoice/transaction flows, reconciliations, and reporting timelines), with the ability to partner effectively with Tax stakeholders and identify/escalate potential issues.
Strong stakeholder management and communication: able to operate with a “no surprises” escalation mindset and keep partners informed of risks and progress.
Strong Excel and MS Office skills.
Strong team player: collaborates effectively across teams and functions, contributes positively during peak close/reporting periods, and supports shared team goals and continuous improvement.
Fluent business English (written/spoken) required.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience with SAP and data platforms (e.g., Databricks), and close/reconciliation/regulatory reporting tooling preferred.
- German proficiency preferred.
