Position Title: Senior Liability Treaty Underwriter – India & Middle East
Munich Re is a leading global reinsurance partner, delivering exceptional value to clients and stakeholders. We are seeking a skilled professional to join our Liability Treaty underwriting team in India as a Senior Underwriter.
In this role, you will lead the underwriting of the India and Middle East Liability Treaty portfolio. You will join a highly motivated team and address emerging risk challenges for our clients in India and the Middle East markets. The role combines disciplined risk selection, robust pricing, clear wordings and governance, active portfolio steering, and strong client engagement to deliver sustainable, profitable growth.
Your Job:
Core Responsibilities:
- Underwrite new and renewal Liability Treaty business across India and the Middle East, covering proportional and non-proportional reinsurance structures, through disciplined risk assessment, pricing and risk selection.
- Structure and negotiate Treaty terms, conditions and wordings within delegated authority and in line with underwriting guidelines, business targets and client strategies.
- Drive underwriting strategy and portfolio steering, including business mix, line size, accumulation, pricing adequacy and portfolio performance.
- Ensure clear underwriting rationale, complete documentation, timely referrals and a strong governance audit trail.
- Partner with Client Management to understand client needs, facilitate technical discussions with cedants and brokers, and identify sustainable growth opportunities.
- Provide peer review, coaching, client training and knowledge transfer, and contribute to regional Casualty initiatives.
Your Profile:
- University degree in insurance, law, finance, economics or a related discipline; a relevant professional qualification is preferred.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in Liability underwriting, Facultative reinsurance or a closely related Casualty underwriting role.
- Demonstrated expertise in Liability products across India and the Middle East, including General Casualty Liability, Professional Liability and Financial Lines.
- In-depth understanding of Liability markets in India and the Middle East, including market practices, coverage features, legal and regulatory developments, claims trends and emerging risks.
- Sound understanding of proportional and non-proportional Treaty structures, reinsurance pricing, exclusions and accumulation management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a solution-oriented mindset and the ability to make sound decisions using incomplete data or information.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, negotiation and presentation skills.
- Collaborative and self-motivated, with strong accountability, ownership and learning agility.
- Proficient in relevant analytical, presentation and business productivity tools required for underwriting, portfolio analysis and stakeholder communication.
- Willingness to travel.
