The role in a nutshell
The Procurement Lead provides leadership for tactical procurement activities through a Category Management approach across North America Shared Services (NASS), ensuring day-to-day purchasing requirements are executed safely, efficiently, consistently and in accordance with established procurement governance. The role coordinates procurement priorities across supported operating sites and acts as a key escalation point for complex or high-risk transactional procurement matters.
Leading the broader tactical buying organization, the Procurement Lead balances operational responsiveness with commercial discipline, service performance and compliance. The role partners with site leadership, Category Leads, Supply Chain functions and other stakeholders to align workload, resolve constraints and maintain effective supply continuity.
The Procurement Lead drives performance through clear priorities, standardized processes, meaningful KPIs, coaching and continuous improvement, while supporting the effective use of Coupa, SAP and related procurement tools.
More specifically, you will be expected to:
- Lead tactical procurement activities across supported operating sites, establishing clear priorities, service expectations and consistent ways of working.
- Lead, coach and develop seniors and the tactical procurement team, building accountability, capability and succession planning.
- Oversee workload allocation, backlog management, aged requisitions, urgent requirements and escalations to ensure timely and effective procurement support.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with delegation of authority, sourcing requirements, policies, procedures, contracts and applicable governance controls.
- Partner with site leadership, Category Leads and Supply Chain functions to align procurement priorities with production, maintenance, project and business requirements.
- Monitor procurement performance through KPIs, dashboards and regular reviews, using corrective actions and measurable improvement in service, compliance and backlog reduction.
- Provide leadership on complex sourcing, supplier, commercial and transactional issues within the tactical procurement mandate, escalating strategic or high-risk matters as required.
- Drive process standardization, adoption of Coupa and SAP, automation and continuous-improvement initiatives that improve efficiency, data quality and user experience.
- Support supplier performance, demand consolidation and appropriate use of contracts, catalogues and preferred suppliers to improve value and reduce transactional complexity.
Do you have what it takes?
- University degree or college diploma in Supply Chain Management, Business, Commerce or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8+ years of progressive procurement or supply chain experience within mining, metals, heavy industry or another complex operating environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading procurement teams and delivering results in a centralized, shared-services or multi-site environment.
- Extensive knowledge of tactical procurement, competitive sourcing, commercial evaluation, purchase-order management and procurement governance.
- Experience managing operational priorities, procurement backlogs, escalations and performance through structured KPIs and action reviews.
- Working knowledge of ERP and digital procurement systems, including SAP and Coupa.
- Effective leadership, coaching, communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to build accountability and alignment across functions.
- Business-minded and methodological, with a professional approach, problem-solving capability and the ability to make effective decisions in a changing environment.
- Collaborative and responsive leader who demonstrates integrity, professionalism and a strong commitment to health, safety, environmental, social and community principles.
Travel: Frequent travel to supported operating sites is required.
Language: Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English is required. French-language proficiency is considered a strong asset.
Location: Corporate office in Laval 5 days a week.
