Are you looking to join an in-house legal team and advise on complex, high-impact matters across a dynamic business environment? Deloitte’s Office of General Counsel is seeking an experienced legal professional to support a broad range of India legal matters, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate and company law, labor and employment, contracts, compliance, and transaction-related activities. This role will work closely with business leaders, Talent, and U.S. attorneys to provide practical legal advice, manage risk, and support strategic business priorities across Deloitte US India operations.
Work you'll do
As Senior Manager, Legal USI on the Office of General Counsel team, you will be responsible for:
- Provide high-level, strategic legal analysis and advice on Indian laws, regulations, and compliance matters to senior management and U.S. attorneys in connection with mergers & acquisitions, corporate law, company laws, secretarial, transactions, rebadges, and other contracts impacting the Deloitte US Indian operations and facilities. In addition, this position includes a significant focus on labor and employment matters generally and in the transaction/rebadge context, and the capability to handle legal issues in multiple Indian states with varying levels of complexity.
- Work on compliance filings with the applicable laws.
- Advise Talent (HR) and business leaders on complex employment law matters, including ICC, investigations, litigation, regulatory, policies and compliance matters.
- Have up-to-date knowledge of Indian labor, commercial, corporate, industrial, and mercantile laws, including those related to technology companies in India. Regularly interact with Indian statutory authorities, such as the Software Technology Parks of India, Registrar of Companies, Company Law Board, Foreign Investment Promotion Board, Customs and Excise Departments, Reserve Bank of India, etc.
- Track the changes/amendments in various applicable laws and regulations and keep management updated on the implications.
- Negotiate vendor contracts and review and draft language for vendor contracts.
- Provide regular and timely legal updates and responses to management; be proactive in the identification and resolution of issues that may have an impact on Indian companies.
- Strong drafting and negotiating skills for all matters including transactions, employment, and corporate, as applicable.
- Define legal issues accurately and find practical answers to complex questions or issues and think strategically and creatively using knowledge gained through prior experience, education, and training. Possess and gain knowledge of the industry and our business.
- Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and colleagues in a collaborative manner, as well as successfully balance the interests of the company and its clients. Influence and collaborate effectively with multiple internal stakeholders, as well as successfully balances the interests of the businesses with potential legal and financial risks for the India companies and their US parents overall.
- Assist in performing high complexity legal work independently with little direct supervision and effectively managing team.
- Assist in leading, guiding, mentoring, and building a team of legal attorneys.
The team
Office of General Counsel is responsible for managing the Deloitte US India Offices legal affairs relating to firm governance, mergers & acquisitions, contracts, engagements, Labor & employment, litigation and regulatory matters, legal risks, and other legal matters.
Location: Gurgaon or Hyderabad
Shift Timings: 11 AM to 8 PM
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from an accredited law school in India or another common law jurisdiction
- 16+ years of experience advising on Indian legal matters, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, company law, labor and employment, contracts, and compliance matters
- Experience advising on legal matters across multiple Indian states
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating master service agreements, vendor contracts, client contracts, and other commercial agreements
- Experience advising senior business leaders, Talent, and cross-functional stakeholders on employment, regulatory, investigation, and compliance matters
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook
- Ability to travel 0-10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
Preferred:
- Company Secretary qualification
- Experience working in an in-house legal function
- Experience supporting Deloitte US India operations or another multinational organization with India-based operations
- Experience handling transaction and rebadge matters
- Experience interacting with Indian statutory and regulatory authorities
- Experience leading or mentoring legal professionals
