Job Description

Summary

Be part of a rapidly growing Alternative Investment Fund Manager (“AIFM”), reporting to the IT & UCI Oversight Vice-President. Ares Management Luxembourg (“AMLux”), a regulated AIFM, is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Associate to assist UCI Oversight Team in the effective implementation and ongoing operational controls of the AIFs under Management while performing additional internal AIFM oversight responsibilities. AMLux is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ares Management LLC which was founded in 1997 to pursue investment activities in leveraged loans, high yield bonds, private debt, private equity, and other types of investments. Ares currently operates in Europe across multiple business lines with investment activities managed by dedicated teams.

Primary Functions and Essential Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

UCI Oversight Duties

• Be part of rapidly growing AIFM, within the UCI Oversight Team.
• Work collaboratively with other Ares business units to oversee the Fund NAV control process and ensure effective oversight of AMLux in line with regulatory requirements
• Perform oversight over the third party Fund Administrators and depositaries.
• Monitor the performance and escalate any exceptions to management
• Work collaboratively with the designated Depositaries to ensure that they receive timely and accurate information to complete their control framework.
• Assist in the design, implementation and ongoing assessment of the due diligence and ongoing monitoring activities as required.
• Assist in producing regular and ad-hoc reports in relation to UCI administration for Senior Management, the Board of Managers and the CSSF.
• Oversight of the funds audit process in collaboration with Ares F&A teams

Internal Audit

• Collaborate closely with the external service providers assisting the Internal Audit function to prepare, organize and coordinate the annual Internal Audit process.
• Monitor, track, and validate the implementation of all internal audit recommendations, ensuring the AIFM’s business units close out remediation points within agreed deadlines.
• In coordination with the firm’s Internal Audit function, evaluate the performance and independence of the external audit firm, reporting on service quality and any potential delivery risks.
• Consolidate audit findings, progress tracking metrics, and closure reports to assist in the preparation of materials for presentation to internal stakeholders.

IT Oversight and Risk Management (DORA)

Be responsible for IT risk ongoing monitoring as framed under DORA requirements:

• Oversee change and incident management from a Luxembourg perspective.
• Review access rights to the AIFM technology infrastructure.
• Monitor the activities of Ares affiliates, and any relevant third-party providers, as resource operators, via due diligences and ongoing monitoring.
• Collaborate with the Group for Luxembourg related matters on the annual RCSA, BIA and BCP/DRP.
• Participate in artificial Intelligence operational deployment and regulatory monitoring.

AIFM Project Management

• Coordinate strategic cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency, automation, and overall scalability of the AIFM, under the direction of the AIFM’s senior management.
• Manage project timelines and consider resource dependencies to ensure new operational workflows and system deployments are adopted smoothly across business lines.
• Support the assessment and onboarding of AI tools for operational processes.

Qualifications & Education:

• University Degree required (preferably in finance, business, or economics)
• Advanced Degree, Certification or Professional qualifications would be considered an advantage.

Experience Required:

• 3+ years of experience in UCI Administration or UCI Oversight related experience with liquid credit, fund of funds, private debt, infrastructure, private equity or real estate strategies
• Professional qualification and/or working knowledge related to regulated activities of AIFMs
• Strong knowledge of illiquid alternative assets
• Knowledge of UCI Part II and ELTIF funds a plus
• Detailed knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards
• In-depth familiarity with use of LLMs (writing detailed prompts, automating tasks, overseeing LLM output) a plus
