A Day in the Life
In this role, you will design and evolve systems that power the end-to-end rental lifecycle—including reservations, pricing engines, fleet allocation, counter workflows, customer identity, and mobile booking journeys. You will work across a highly distributed environment supporting multi-brand, multi-country, and franchise operations with complex regulatory and operational requirements.
Your day will involve working closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to translate business needs into scalable, resilient, and secure system designs. You will lead architecture discussions, review designs and code, define API contracts, and ensure alignment across multiple engineering teams.
You will play a key role in modernizing legacy systems into cloud-native, microservices-based, and event-driven architectures, ensuring high availability, performance, and extensibility. You will also guide teams on adopting best practices around observability, fault tolerance, and CI/CD pipelines.
A significant portion of your time will be spent mentoring engineers, influencing technical decisions, and ensuring consistency across platform architecture, while balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term strategic goals.
What You Will Do
· Define and own end-to-end architecture across Rental (RAC) and Digital platforms, including backend services, APIs, and frontend integrations
· Design and implement cloud-native architectures using microservices, serverless patterns, and distributed systems
· Establish and govern API-first design principles and integration patterns across systems (REST, GraphQL, event streaming)
· Drive adoption of event-driven architecture (Kafka or equivalent) to enable scalable, loosely coupled systems
· Lead architecture for key platform capabilities including:
o Reservations and booking orchestration
o Pricing and rules engines
o Fleet and availability systems
o Customer profiles and identity
o Mobile and web experiences
· Ensure systems are designed for high availability, scalability, fault tolerance, and performance optimization
· Define standards for security, compliance, and data governance across platforms
· Collaborate with engineering teams through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on technical guidance
· Guide adoption of DevOps practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and observability tools
· Evaluate and recommend new technologies, frameworks, and tools aligned with platform strategy
· Partner with Enterprise Architecture to align with broader technology strategy and shared services
· Leverage and promote AI-enabled development, automation, and intelligent system design practices
What We’re Looking For
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
· 10–15+ years of experience in software engineering and architecture
· Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale, distributed systems
· Strong expertise in:
o Java, Spring Boot, and backend architectures
o RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and integration patterns
o Microservices and event-driven systems
· Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred; Azure/GCP acceptable)
· Strong understanding of:
o System design principles (scalability, consistency, resilience)
o Data modeling and database technologies (SQL/NoSQL)
o Messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.)
· Experience with frontend and mobile integration patterns (React, React Native preferred)
· Knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes)
· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to evaluate technical trade-offs
· Excellent communication skills with ability to influence across teams and stakeholders
· Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with globally distributed teams
· Familiarity with security best practices (OAuth2, JWT, Zero Trust concepts)
· AI practitioner, AI-aware, and enthusiastic about applying AI in architecture, development, and platform modernization

2) Spring Ecosystem (MVC, Boot, Cloud, Security, AI)
- Expertise in Spring Boot, MVC, Cloud, Security, Data JPA, Batch; REST/SOAP/GraphQL with API governance
- Secure APIs using OAuth2/OIDC/JWT/TLS/mTLS; OWASP, secrets management, secure coding
- Spring Cloud hands-on: Config/Gateway/Circuit Breaker/Discovery patterns
- Design and development of REST/SOAP/GraphQL APIs with best practices for API versioning and documentation (Swagger/ OpenAPI)
3) Coding & Problem Solving
Purpose of Coding Evaluation
- Coding is mandatory, but is used primarily to validate design thinking, architectural reasoning, and correctness, rather than pure DSA skills
- Evaluation focuses on design trade‑offs, extensibility, reliability, and correctness, over algorithmic optimization alone
- Problems typically involve refactoring, abstraction, concurrency, distributed system concepts, or observability‑aware design
- Note for Coding Exercises:
Before implementing any solution, the candidate is expected to clearly explain design choices and architectural trade‑offs, such as:
- Simplicity vs extensibility
- Consistency vs availability
- Performance vs maintainability
4) Microservices, Distributed Systems & Messaging (Kafka / RabbitMQ / MQ)
- Define solution blueprints/reference architectures; microservices patterns; event-driven design; service mesh concepts
- Distributed transaction thinking: ACID/CAP/eventual consistency; saga patterns; reliability strategies
- Kafka/RabbitMQ depth: streaming, partitioning, reliability patterns
5) Architecture & Design Patterns (incl. scalability & observability)
