Job Title: Domain Head for Engineering Transformation

About Business line/Function: Securities Services

Position Purpose: The Head of Engineering Transformation will lead the technology modernization and engineering excellence agenda for Securities Services IT. The role is responsible for defining the engineering strategy, modernizing software delivery, driving AI-enabled software engineering, improving developer productivity, and building a high-performing engineering organization.

This leader will work closely with business, architecture, delivery, infrastructure and security teams to transform how software is designed, built, tested, deployed and operated.

Responsibilities

Direct Responsibilities

Engineering Transformation

• Define and execute the engineering transformation roadmap.
• Lead large-scale modernization initiatives across applications, platforms and engineering practices.
• Drive adoption of cloud-native architectures and modern engineering principles.
• Build a culture focused on engineering excellence, quality and continuous improvement.

Technical Leadership

• Provide technical direction across multiple engineering portfolios.
• Lead architecture reviews and technology governance.
• Guide engineering teams on scalable, resilient and secure architectures.
• Establish engineering standards, reusable frameworks and reference architectures.
• Promote engineering craftsmanship across the organization.

Lead BNP Paribas’ AI engineering transformation by:

• Defining AI strategy for software engineering.
• Driving practical adoption of AI throughout the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Improving developer productivity through AI.
• Establishing AI governance and responsible AI engineering practices.
• Identifying opportunities for autonomous and agentic engineering workflows.
• Coaching engineering teams on effective use of AI assistants beyond code generation.
• Measuring productivity gains and engineering outcomes enabled by AI.

Engineering Excellence

• Improve engineering productivity and delivery predictability.
• Drive automation across development, testing and deployment.
• Improve software quality, resiliency and operational excellence.
• Establish engineering KPIs and continuously measure improvement.
• Reduce technical debt through structured modernization programs.

Delivery Leadership

• Lead engineering organizations of 15+ engineers.
• Govern large transformation programs.
• Manage delivery risk, dependencies and execution.
• Ensure successful delivery of strategic initiatives.

Contributing Responsibilities

Stakeholder Management

• Partner with Business, Product and Operations leadership.
• Build trusted relationships with senior technology executives.
• Influence engineering strategy across global teams.
• Communicate transformation progress to executive leadership.

Talent Development

• Mentor senior engineers, architects and engineering managers.
• Build future engineering leaders.
• Support hiring of top engineering talent.
• Drive technical capability development and succession planning.

Governance

• Ensure security, privacy and regulatory compliance.
• Drive engineering governance across technology portfolios.
• Establish architecture review and technical decision forums.
• Promote operational resilience and technology risk management.

Technical & Behavioral Competencies

• Seasoned Software engineering leader

• Forward deployed Engineering

• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices and modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Experience with Python and AI frameworks is desirable.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems and enterprise architecture.
• Strong cloud experience.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and DevSecOps.
• Experience with Observability platforms.
• Experience implementing TDD and Agile engineering practices at scale.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software engineering tools and AI governance.
• Banking and Financial Services domain experience is highly desirable.

Specific Qualifications: B.Tech/M.Tech/MCA
