Product Owner - AI Retail Growth, Zurich Asia Pacific
Context
Zurich in Asia Pacific is running a strategic initiative focused on reimagining how insurance is discovered, considered and sold in an AI-led world. This role sits within a newly formed squad and owns the development of AI-native discovery and purchase journey, starting with select markets and expanding across the region.
We're looking for a Product Owner who will own the end-to-end build: from conversational discovery and purchase flows to the underlying data and recommendation architecture that powers personalized, channel-agnostic sales.
This is a hands-on, build-and-ship role reporting into the region, working closely with internal and external development partners, underwriting, and country teams.
This role reports to Head of AI Retail & Customer, APAC.
What the Role Does
- Own the product roadmap and backlog for the AI-led retail sales channel
- Translate vision into user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritized sprints, working directly with internal and external development agencies
- Design and iterate the conversational purchase experience - balancing conversion, trust, and regulatory/compliance requirements in insurance sales
- Define the data architecture and business logic behind data-driven add-on and cross-sell recommendations
- Ensure the channel is built on a channel-agnostic architecture that can extend beyond web to WhatsApp, app, and partner channels
- Partner with underwriting, pricing, and compliance to make sure the AI-driven journey stays within risk and regulatory guardrails
- Define and track success metrics and use them to drive the product roadmap
- Act as the day-to-day counterpart to the internal and external build partner, managing scope, timelines, and quality
- Scope the path to regional rollout, capturing what's reusable vs. market-specific
What we’re looking for
- 6–8+ years in product management/product ownership, ideally with experience shipping consumer-facing digital products in insurance, fintech, or e-commerce
- Direct experience building or owning Digital and/or AI-powered customer journeys - not just familiarity with AI tools
- Strong grasp of agile delivery - comfortable writing detailed specs and managing an external dev team, not just running ceremonies
- Working knowledge of how insurance products and financial regulations
- Sharp instincts for conversion-focused UX and where friction genuinely matters vs. where it's a compliance non-negotiable
- Comfortable operating with ambiguity - this is a 0-to-1 build, not an existing product with a mature backlog
- Excellent stakeholder management - this role sits between strategy, tech delivery, core insurance operations, and country teams
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, partners, and stakeholders across APAC markets.
- Proficiency in Mandarin may be required where the role involves regular interaction with Mandarin-speaking customers, partners, vendors, or markets where documentation and business communications are primarily conducted in Mandarin.
