Munich Re Japan Branch was established in July 2017 as a composite reinsurance branch serving life and non-life clients in Japan.
Japan is a strategically important market for Munich Re, and the establishment of the Branch reflects our continued commitment to supporting clients and driving sustainable growth in the region. We are looking for a qualified and experienced Senior Client Manager to join our collaborative team and contribute to Munich Re's long-term success in Japan.
Reporting to the Head of Client Management Japan, the Senior Client Manager will be responsible for key client relationships, with a leading Japan P&C insurance company. This senior client-facing role involves managing and coordinating business activities for the nominated key clients across both domestic and international markets, with a focus on profitable growth, strategic relationship development and high-quality client engagement.
Working closely with key internal and external stakeholders across Japan and globally, the successful candidate will play a critical role in strengthening client partnerships, identifying new business opportunities, and delivering innovative reinsurance solutions — contributing directly to Munich Re's long-term growth ambitions in one of its most important markets. The role sits within a dynamic, international, and collaborative environment, and is supported by a hybrid working model combining in-office collaboration with remote flexibility.
Your Role
- Demonstrate a strong balance of commercial acumen and technical reinsurance expertise.
- Engage credibly with clients, brokers and colleagues at multiple levels, ranging from operational teams to C-suite stakeholders, both domestically and internationally.
- Develop a clear understanding of clients' risk management and reinsurance needs and, together with client teams and internal service providers, implement strategies and solutions leveraging Munich Re's full range of products and expertise.
- Lead all aspects of client negotiations to deliver timely, effective and value-adding solutions.
- Identify and develop new and existing business opportunities aligned with Munich Re's strategic priorities while proactively ensuring client satisfaction.
- Lead client teams in achieving business objectives and exceeding customer expectations, ensuring high service standards across all client interactions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key client decision-makers while establishing effective networks across relevant stakeholder groups.
- Enhance Munich Re's visibility and market presence through industry engagement, relationship building and participation in relevant events.
Your Profile
- At least 15 years of experience in non-life reinsurance sales and/or underwriting roles.
- Strong teamwork and networking skills, with the ability to collaborate proactively and share knowledge within cross-cultural and virtual teams.
- Strong listening, communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence effectively at all organisational levels, including C-suite executives.
- Experience working in a global organisation and/or with international stakeholders.
- Experience leading teams or strategic projects would be advantageous.
- Fluent in both Japanese and English.
