Join our External Fraud Risk Oversight & Governance team, part of Macquarie’s Risk Management Group, where we play a critical role in providing oversight and challenge across Macquarie’s institutional and retail businesses. This role supports the identification, assessment and management of external fraud risks across non financial risk themes, with a particular focus on payments, customer scams and broader fraud typologies affecting institutional and retail banking activities.We are a global financial services group operating in 30 markets with 57 years of unbroken profitability. What role will you play?
In this role, you will sit within the second line of defence, providing independent oversight, governance and credible challenge of how external fraud risks are managed across Macquarie’s businesses.You will play a key role in advancing the external fraud risk oversight framework, including policies, standards and governance arrangements, and will challenge the design and effectiveness of first line fraud prevention and detection controls across the end to end customer lifecycle.
You will monitor emerging fraud and scam typologies and translate this intelligence into forward looking risk insights to support senior management decision making. Working closely with first line fraud, product and business teams, you will act as a trusted risk partner while maintaining independence and ensuring alignment with Macquarie’s risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
You will also contribute to executive and governance level reporting, communicating complex fraud risks, control weaknesses and emerging trends to senior management, risk committees and other governance forums.
What you offer
- 5+ years’ experience in second line of defence roles across fraud risk, financial crime risk, operational risk or compliance, with a strong focus on independent oversight, governance and credible challenge.
- Demonstrated experience developing, drafting and maintaining risk policies, standards and control frameworks, and supporting their implementation through effective second line oversight.
- Proven capability conducting and reviewing risk assessments, thematic reviews and deep dives, including assessment of inherent and residual risk, control design and control effectiveness.
- A solid understanding of external fraud risk and scam typologies, and how fraud risks manifest across institutional and retail banking products and customer lifecycles.
- Experience challenging first line risk management practices, including governance arrangements, risk acceptance decisions, KRIs and monitoring approaches, in line with risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
- Ability to interpret regulatory expectations and industry guidance and translate these into practical, fit for purpose second line policy and oversight requirements.
- Strong judgement and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify emerging risks, assess complex risk issues and provide clear, risk based recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing governance ready materials for senior management and risk committees.
- Proven ability to engage, advise and influence senior stakeholders while maintaining independence and constructive challenge.
- Experience within a global financial institution or professional services/ advisory environment would be advantageous.
- Candidates with strong second line risk, compliance or operational risk experience, but with less direct exposure to external fraud risk oversight & governance, are also encouraged to apply. Suitable candidates with less experience may be considered for appointment at Senior Analyst level, with scope to develop deeper external fraud risk specialisation over time.
