This role is responsible for providing expert 2LoD Financial Crime oversight and advisory support across the Group Financial Crime Framework, with a particular focus on Corporate Functions. In addition, the role works closely with the Team Lead to help ensure compliance with applicable UK and international regulatory requirements and alignment with the M&G Policy and Governance Framework.
Acting as the senior Financial Crime adviser and key escalation point for Corporate Functions, the role provides expert advice, guidance and challenge on financial crime risks, regulatory obligations, policies, standards and control requirements. The role supports Corporate Functions in identifying, assessing and managing financial crime risks and embedding appropriate controls in line with Group Financial Crime requirements.
Working closely with stakeholders across Risk, Compliance and Corporate Functions, the role contributes to the development and enhancement of financial crime governance, risk appetite, training and regulatory obligations frameworks. The individual will work closely with the Team Lead to help coordinate delivery of key priorities, support governance activities and contribute to the effective operation of the Group Financial Crime Function.
The role acts as a senior escalation point for financial crime matters relating to Corporate Functions and serves as a subject matter expert across anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorist financing (CTF), anti-bribery and corruption (ABC), tax evasion facilitation (TEF), sanctions and fraud.
Key Responsibilities for this Role:
- Act as the primary Financial Crime adviser to Corporate Functions, building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and providing advice, guidance and challenge on the interpretation and practical application of Group and UK Financial Crime requirements.
- Support Corporate Functions in identifying, assessing and managing financial crime risks, providing appropriate challenge and oversight to ensure risks are understood, mitigated and managed within appetite.
- Provide Financial Crime advisory support and challenge to Corporate Functions initiatives, projects and transformation activities, ensuring financial crime risks are identified and addressed appropriately throughout the change lifecycle.
- Provide technical advice, guidance and effective second-line challenge to Corporate Functions on financial crime risks, regulatory requirements, policies, standards and control frameworks.
- Review and challenge papers, proposals, risk assessments and governance submissions originating from Corporate Functions where there are financial crime considerations.
- Support the owners of the Group and UK Financial Crime Policy and Standards Frameworks in the maintenance, review and enhancement of financial crime policies, standards, minimum requirements, guidance and supporting documentation, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and the M&G Policy and Governance Framework.
- Support the identification, assessment and interpretation of UK and international financial crime regulatory developments impacting the Group.
- Review and provide advice, challenge and recommendations on requests for exemptions, waivers and dispensations relating to Financial Crime Policies, Standards and Minimum Requirements.
- Support the Team Lead in the prioritisation, coordination and delivery of Group Financial Crime Function priorities and key initiatives, providing senior technical expertise, stakeholder engagement and governance support across the team's areas of responsibility.
- Act as a trusted adviser to the Team Lead, providing technical expertise, strategic input and support in delivering the Group Financial Crime Function's objectives.
- Act as a Group subject matter expert for AML, CTF, ABC, TEF, sanctions, fraud and broader financial crime risk management matters.
Additional Responsibilities for this Role:
Support the Team Lead in the execution of strategic, governance and oversight responsibilities across the Group Financial Crime Function, including:
- Supporting the maintenance, ongoing development and enhancement of the Financial Crime Policy Framework, Financial Crime Training Framework and Financial Crime Risk Appetite, Data and MI Frameworks.
- Reviewing, challenging and providing subject matter input to changes in financial crime risk and control models to ensure ongoing effectiveness and alignment with risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
- Providing senior technical guidance and subject matter expertise across the Group Financial Crime Function, acting as an escalation point for complex financial crime matters and promoting consistent application of financial crime requirements.
- Building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with Group Risk, Compliance and Corporate Functions.
- Supporting, coaching and mentoring colleagues across the Group Financial Crime Function, promoting knowledge sharing and consistent application of financial crime requirements.
Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Significant financial crime experience, with a strong understanding of financial crime risks, control frameworks and regulatory expectations within the asset management and/or insurance sectors. (Essential)
- Proven experience operating within a Group Financial Crime, Compliance or Risk function, including governance, policy implementation, risk oversight and stakeholder engagement. (Essential)
- Strong experience supporting the design, implementation and embedding of financial crime frameworks, including policies, standards, governance arrangements, training programmes, escalation processes and management information (KPIs, KRIs, data and analytics). (Essential)
- Demonstrable experience in developing, maintaining or enhancing financial crime risk and control frameworks and associated methodologies.
- Demonstrable experience coordinating complex programmes of work, managing competing priorities and supporting the delivery of key initiatives within a Risk, Compliance or Financial Crime environment. (Essential)
- Experience providing leadership, coaching and oversight within a specialist function, including supporting senior management in the delivery of team objectives and priorities. (Essential)
- Extensive subject matter expertise across AML, CTF, ABC, TEF, sanctions, fraud prevention and wider financial crime regulatory requirements and industry expectations. (Essential)
- Experience partnering with senior stakeholders in Corporate Functions, providing credible advice, challenge and influence on risk, regulatory and control-related matters. (Essential)
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience engaging effectively across Compliance, Risk, Operations, Technology, Corporate Functions and business stakeholders.
- Ability to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes across Corporate Functions while maintaining effective independent oversight and challenge.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex regulatory and risk matters clearly and concisely to senior management, committees and Boards. (Essential)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and judgement capabilities, with the ability to assess complex financial crime risks and provide practical, risk-based recommendations and solutions. (Essential)
- Experience coaching and developing colleagues within a risk, compliance or financial crime environment.
- The ability to operate effectively in a complex organisation, balancing strategic priorities with detailed technical and regulatory considerations.
