Job Summary

The Executive Director of Conduct and Controls within CIB Operations at Standard Chartered will play a pivotal role in overseeing and advancing the bank's first-line non-financial risk management capabilities. This position is focused on the comprehensive management of Non-Financial Risk (NFR), including conduct risk, by partnering closely with various risk and control functions as well as operational teams. The successful candidate will lead the strategic integration and continuous improvement of risk management practices across Financial Markets Operations, Transaction Banking, Financing and Securities Services, and Lending Operations.

Key Strategic Deliverables
• Provide overarching leadership to embed a robust Risk culture ensuring adherence to NFR principles in all operational facets.
• Lead the development and deployment of innovative data analytics platforms to enhance visibility into risk exposures and control effectiveness.
• Collaborate extensively with first and second line risk partners to ensure comprehensive risk identification, mitigation, and remediation across CIB Operations.
• Proactively monitor emerging risk and regulatory landscapes, translating these into actionable insights and continuous process optimisation.
• Champion the professional development of risk management professionals by fostering an environment of learning, innovation, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the management of non-financial risks across Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) Operations, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and addressed effectively.
• Partner with business leaders, process owners, and risk teams to strengthen controls and improve risk management practices.
• Design and lead risk reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of processes, controls, and risk frameworks across different operational areas.
• Identify emerging risks, industry trends, and regulatory developments, and recommend actions to mitigate potential impacts.
• Conduct root cause analysis of operational issues, control weaknesses, and risk events, driving sustainable solutions and corrective actions.
• Develop and implement initiatives that improve risk culture, employee awareness, and conduct standards across the organisation.
• Use data analytics and reporting to assess control effectiveness, identify trends, and provide actionable risk insights.
• Prepare and communicate risk review findings, recommendations, and improvement plans to senior management and governance forums.
• Lead and support cross-functional working groups focused on enhancing risk management and control effectiveness.
• Collaborate with internal audit, assurance, compliance, and other oversight teams to coordinate reviews and address risk-related concerns.
• Build, develop, and lead a team of risk professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Support regulatory reviews and engagements, ensuring timely preparation of materials and effective management of regulatory and compliance matters.

Skills and Experience

• Extensive experience in Non-Financial Risk Management with a focus on Conduct Risk within banking or financial services.
• Deep understanding and proven application of risk and control frameworks, including monitoring and enhancing control effectiveness.
• Skilled in conducting Thematic Risk Reviews and Root Cause Analysis to identify systemic issues and recommend sustainable solutions.
• Proficient in leveraging data analytics to generate actionable insights for risk assessment and decision-making processes.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management capabilities with experience driving cross-functional collaboration and influencing senior management.
• Excellent communication skills, adept at translating complex risk concepts into clear, actionable guidance and fostering a culture of transparency.
• Education – A degree-level qualification in a relevant field such as Finance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or related disciplines is essential.
• Professional Training – Project Management qualifications and recognised risk management certifications (such as IRM or GRC) are highly desirable and valued.
• Certifications – Relevant risk management certifications demonstrating expertise and commitment to continuous professional development enhance candidacy.
