The Operational, Technology and Cyber Risk (OTCR) organisation is instrumental in protecting and ensuring the resilience of Standard Chartered Bank’s operations, data, and IT systems by managing operational, technology and cyber risk across the enterprise. Reporting into the Group Chief Risk Officer (CRO), the Group OTCR team serves as the second line of defence for assuring that controls are implemented effectively, in accordance with the OTCR Framework, and for instilling a risk culture within the Bank. 

This role offers an exciting opportunity to span AI initiatives across the Bank supporting the second line of defence oversight of AI across Operational, Technology and Cyber Risks.  With the rapid development of the technology and ambitious plans for AI use in the Bank, this will be a key role in helping understand, coordinate and manage the complex risks associated with AI’s multifaceted impact on the business and technology.  Part of a wider team of Cyber and Technology SME’s this role will be supported by a close nit team of experts and will gain expansive visibility and integration across Bank wide and highly relevant strategic change.

This role is responsible for managing the AI risk and governance for Operational, Cyber and Technology Risks.  This includes collating the enterprise AI risk profile, analysing risk and control data to identify trends and emerging issues, and supporting the wider AI SME team to collate, analyse, coordinate and act on key issues and actions. It also coordinates OTCR-wide AI activities to drive consistency across policies, process and oversight, while leading engagement, awareness and education to support safe, informed and effective adoption of AI across OTCR. Candidates should demonstrate curiosity and active learning in AI developments, with a working understanding of key concepts and risks, but deep technical specialism or prior hands-on AI experience is not required. 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide second-line oversight of AI risk, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and governed in line with the Bank’s framework and objectives.
• Maintain the enterprise AI risk profile, consolidating inputs across teams to highlight key risks, exposures, and emerging issues.
• Analyze AI risk, control, and issue data to identify trends, gaps, and priorities, and provide actionable insights to senior stakeholders.
• Coordinate AI risk governance activities across OTCR, ensuring consistency in policies, standards, reporting, and assessments.
• Support AI SME team deliverables, tracking actions, managing dependencies, escalating issues, and driving timely completion.
• Enhance AI risk governance practices, including risk assessments, controls, oversight processes, reporting, and management information.
• Partner with business and risk teams to understand AI use cases, associated risks, controls, and operational impacts.
• Prepare insight-driven reports for senior management and governance forums on AI risks, controls, issues, and actions.
• Monitor AI, cyber, resilience, and regulatory developments and assess their implications for the Bank.
• Promote AI risk awareness and education, translating complex concepts into practical guidance for safe adoption.
• Collaborate across functions to drive consistent understanding and management of AI-related risks.
• Apply balanced risk judgement, supporting business objectives while ensuring risks and control gaps are effectively managed.
• Stay informed on AI trends and risks, continuously building knowledge to support effective oversight.
• Promote a strong risk culture, ensuring AI adoption is supported by accountability, transparency, and effective controls.

Skills and Experience

• 5-6 yeas of experience in information security, cyber risk management, or technology risk.
• Good understanding of AI/ML concepts and associated risk and governance considerations.
• Knowledge of risk, control, governance, and regulatory frameworks.Strong communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience managing projects and coordinating stakeholders across multiple functions.
• Solid understanding of technology, cyber and operational risk, including data, systems, controls and resilience concepts.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends and provide actionable risk insights.
• Excellent coordination and stakeholder management skills, driving alignment across teams and managing multiple priorities.
• Strong communication skills, able to present complex technical concepts clearly to senior stakeholders and governance forums.
• Curious, proactive and challenge-oriented mindset, with enthusiasm for learning and working in a fast-growing area.
• Interest in AI and emerging technologies, combined with a commitment to continuous learning and development.
• Ability to influence and build credibility, providing constructive challenge while maintaining collaborative relationships.
• Adaptable and pragmatic approach, applying sound judgement in a rapidly evolving and sometimes ambiguous environment.
