Job Description

Purpose of the role

To build and maintain the systems that collect, store, process, and analyse data, such as data pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes to ensure that all data is accurate, accessible, and secure. 

Accountabilities

• Build and maintenance of data architectures pipelines that enable the transfer and processing of durable, complete and consistent data.
• Design and implementation of data warehoused and data lakes that manage the appropriate data volumes and velocity and adhere to the required security measures.
• Development of processing and analysis algorithms fit for the intended data complexity and volumes.
• Collaboration with data scientist to build and deploy machine learning models.

Join us as a Data Engineer-VP at Barclays where you will Lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable data engineering solutions supporting business, regulatory, and analytical requirements. Responsible for building and optimizing data pipelines, cloud-native data platforms, data governance, and data integration capabilities while ensuring data quality, security, and operational stability. Collaborate with business, architecture, and technology teams to drive data modernization initiatives, mentor engineers, and deliver strategic outcomes aligned with enterprise objectives. Expertise in cloud technologies (AWS), data warehousing, ETL/ELT, big data frameworks, DevOps, and agile delivery practices is essential.

To be successful as a  Data Engineer-VP, you should have experience with (Must have):

• AWS Cloud Technologies (DBT, Glue, Athena, S3, Lambda, Iceberg, Data Mesh and cloud-native data platforms)

• Data Engineering & Data Warehousing (ETL/ELT, SQL, Python)

• DevOps & Software Engineering Practices (GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, automation and release management)

• Stakeholder & Delivery Leadership (leading data transformation initiatives, regulatory data delivery, mentoring teams, and collaborating with business, architecture and engineering stakeholders)

 Some other highly valued skills may include (Nice to have) :

• Data Governance & Data Quality Management (Metadata, Data Lineage, Data Controls, Data Stewardship, Data Mesh)

• AI & Advanced Analytics (Machine Learning, Generative AI, Prompt Engineering)

• Financial Services Domain Knowledge (Credit Risk, Basel 3.1, IFRS9, Stress Testing, Regulatory Reporting)
