Are you ready to play a key role in shaping investment decisions and business strategy at TotalEnergies EP Malaysia? We are looking for a skilled Senior Petroleum Economist to serve as a core analytical contributor, supporting economic evaluation and strategic decision-making across TEPMY’s portfolio.
Activities
Your Impact
As the Senior Petroleum Economist, you will:
Strategic/Medium-to-Long Term
- Support development and enhancement of economic models, evaluation frameworks and analytical tools.
- Support portfolio screening, business planning and investment strategy formulation through economic insights and scenario analysis.
Operational/Execution (Economic Modeling & Evaluation)
- Build and run cashflow models for producing assets, development projects and exploration opportunities.
- Perform NPV, IRR, breakeven and sensitivity analyses to support investment decisions.
- Conduct economic screening of new opportunities, farm-ins/farm-outs and project sanctions.
Commercial & Portfolio Support
- Support commercial teams in new business opportunity evaluations, contract negotiations (PSC fiscal terms, pricing assumptions), cost optimization initiatives and JV partner engagements.
- Provide inputs to portfolio optimization, ranking and capital allocation decisions.
Risk & Uncertainty Analysis
- Perform scenario analysis and assist in probabilistic assessments (e.g., Monte Carlo) where required.
- Identify key economic drivers and risks across projects.
Reporting & Coordination
- Maintain strategic liaison with the headquarters and contribute to TEPMY Long Term Plan (LTP), Budget cycles, Reserves reporting (SEC/SPE where applicable), JPF, CDEP, BR, COVAL, CORISK and COMEX analysis and Business Unit and HQ reporting requirements.
Candidate Profile
What We Are Looking For
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Degree in Economics, Engineering, Finance or related field.
- Advanced degree (MBA, MSc in Energy Economics, Energy Management, Finance, etc.) is an advantage.
- 5 to 12 years of experience in petroleum economics, commercial, or financial roles in the energy sector.
- Experience in upstream oil & gas economics is essential.
- Exposure to PSC fiscal systems, project evaluation and providing analytical support to management.
