Context & Environment
The Power technical line within OneTech supports the Company’s technological ambitions in the digitalization of the renewable energy value chain. It brings together cross-domain expertise (scientific and digital) to deliver digital products with the goal of maximizing both the performance and value of renewable assets (solar, wind, energy storage).
The organization is structured around four platforms, including the Origination & Design Platform.
The products developed within this platform are designed to improve project design, energy yield assessments, and cost optimization, ultimately maximizing the value of our renewable energy projects and future assets. By design, these domains are data intensive and require integration of most advanced digital solutions.
Within this platform, you will join the Solar Resource & Yield team, which supports the development of solar energy activities across TotalEnergies. You will contribute your expertise to develop advanced modeling tools dedicated to solar resource assessment and photovoltaic power generation forecasting.
Your contribution will help transform scientific advances and models developed by the team into robust operational solutions deployed across TotalEnergies’ renewable energy businesses.
Activities
As Solar Resource & Yield Engineer, you will focus on Resource Assessment and will be responsible for the design and development of numerical models for solar resource projection and analysis of solar meteorological data. These models are critical for supporting project development and optimizing asset operations across the electricity value chain.
Acting as a technical referent you will coordinate activities of the team, ensuring alignment and delivery of high quality solutions to internal stakeholders and business units.
Your day-to-day activities will include :
- Lead the activity on solar resource assessment, participating to the technological roadmap, its execution and guiding the team’s efforts.
- Drive solar resource assessment tasks for urgent modeling support requests from business units and OneTech partners.
- Contribute hands-on to numerical model development, applying your expertise to improve accuracy and reliability.
- Stay at the forefront of innovation by reviewing scientific literature, monitoring emerging trends, and actively participating in leading conferences.
- Represent TotalEnergies in international collaborations, including IEA PVPS Task 16, strengthening our position in the global solar community.
- Collaborate closely with internal customers and cross-functional teams to ensure models meet operational and development needs.
- Use advanced tools and technologies, including statistical modeling, machine learning, and meteorological dataplatforms, to deliver robust solutions.
Candidate Profile
You hold a PhD or are a professional with at least 10 years of experience in solar resource assessment within industry, or you are a researcher with publications in atmospheric science, meteorology, renewable energy systems physics, computer vision, or advanced statistics. You are passionate about innovation and scientific advancement.
You possess strong technical expertise in the modeling of atmospheric phenomena related to solar energy.
You have proven experience in the development of scientific software using Python.
You are comfortable with data analysis, modeling techniques, and the handling of large meteorological datasets.
You are fluent in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of French is a plus.
Your excellent interpersonal and coordination skills, team spirit, curiosity, and proactive approach to problem-solving will be key assets for success in this role.
