About the role
The Trade Analytics & Insights team supports commercial teams across London, Singapore, New York and Houston. We are seeking a Transmission Market Strategist to join the NY Gas & Power trading team, working in a fast-paced front-office environment.
This role is fully embedded with traders and a cross-discipline team of strategists passionate about understanding, forecasting and monetising transmission congestion across major US power markets. You will combine deep transmission market expertise with quantitative and fundamental analysis to support commercial decision-making, embed insights into fundamental models, and construct and develop trading strategy.
Working at the intersection of trading, analytics and technology, you will act as a key link between traders, market strategists, data strategists and technology teams, helping transform transmission market expertise into scalable analytical solutions.
As a strategist specialising in transmission, you will explain, model and predict relevant congestion patterns and forecast price running simulations of various ISOs (PJM, MISO, ERCOT) using tools (Dayzer, PowerWorld). You will work side-by-side with traders, contributing insight, shaping strategy development, and its commercial application. Trading activity can occur in the monthly CRR/FTR auctions, virtuals and in the Day Ahead and Real-Time markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Forecast congestion, nodal pricing and transmission risk across major US ISOs including PJM, MISO and ERCOT
- Work with traders to develop analytical frameworks used to understand congestion drivers and market behaviour.
- Work with other power strategists to ensure network models and assumptions are fit for purpose for other price and stack models in use on the team (eg Dayzer, PyPSA).
- Analyse transmission, outage, weather, generation and market datasets.
- Support the development of fundamental outlooks as shaped by transmission understanding in the near and long term.
- Monitor changes in power markets by following regulatory developments and participating in ISO interested party meetings.
- Identify trade strategies for the CRR / FTR auctions.
- Work collaboratively across regions sharing research, tools, and best practices
- Build strong partnerships with traders and technology to implement robust, scalable, production-ready solutions.
Essential education, experience and requirements
- A degree in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus (degrees in other quantitative fields such as Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, etc. will be considered)
- Demonstrated experience analysing transmission congestion, binding constraints, power flows and nodal pricing.
- Strong understanding of one or more major US ISOs and the drivers of congestion and price formation.
- Undergraduate in STEM degree from a top-class institution.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience working with large datasets.
- Experience using transmission and power market modelling tools such as Dayzer, PowerWorld.
- Ability to apply rigorous statistical thinking to forecasting, backtesting and risk assessment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable trading insights.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with traders, market strategists, quantitative researchers and technology teams.
