Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting The internship position is located in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSAF) in Pretoria, South Africa. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Regional Project Coordinator at ROSAF in Pretoria, South Africa, and the overall guidance of the Regional Representative for Southern Africa. The internship is for a period of six (6) months, with a starting date as soon as possible. The internship is UPDAID and full-time. The intern will be required to work five (5) days per week, 40 hours per week. For more information about the work of UNODC, please visit https://www.unodc.org/rosaf/index.html Responsibilities The incumbent will perform the following substantive duties: •Assist in preparing reports, concept papers, policy documents, talking points, articles and other materials. •Assist in the development of strategic communications, presentations and visualizations; •Proofread documents, reviewing style, grammar and consistency. •Provide logistical support for in-person and virtual events and convenings. This includes event preparation and execution. •Assist in conducting research on issues related to trans-national organized crime including asset confiscation, international cooperation, and illicit financial flows etc. •Assist in monitoring and analyzing the information the project information and materials. •Assist in the production and review of various policies, papers, and other documents/materials. •Attend and take notes at conferences and meetings. •Assist in servicing conferences and meetings. •Assist in maintaining/managing databases. •Support the identification of key contacts and opportunities for strategic partnerships; Perform other duties as requested
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Candidates for the Internship Programme will be selected on a competitive basis. Applicants must meet the following requirements: Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation in law, information technology, monitoring and evaluation, economics, International Relations, International Development, Political Science or related area; (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING THE ABOVE MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); Excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records. Excellent written skills. Ability to convey complex ideas clearly and engagingly and adjust style to reach a variety of different audiences. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Ability to work in a multicultural environment and a strong team-working capacity. Ability to manage a high workload in a fast-paced environment, with strong attention to detail and a high bar for quality; manage concurrent timelines, independently prioritize tasks and work is desirable.
