What role will you play?
As a strong staff engineer you will help tackle some of the most challenging problems in the bank. Our team operates a flat organisational structure, this role is a blend of principal engineer, technical architect, and people manager. You will be responsible for the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of the products and platforms owned by your teams. In addition to technology ownership, you will play a key role in hiring and fostering the technical growth of the engineers on their teams. Drawing on deep and broad technical expertise, you will be hands-on in the code, solving technical problems, mentoring junior engineers, and providing leadership on complex technology issues across the company, while also spending your time building outstanding software by both directly coding and offering close technical direction and management to your teams.What you offer
- Strong technical background (preferably in Java) and computer science education or equivalent experience
- Proven success leading complex engineering initiatives and working collaboratively in teams
- Experience building scalable, maintainable, and performant web applications in an Agile product environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly across all levels of the organisation
- Strong experience with hands-on coding, system design, and code review across diverse services and platforms
- Skilled at analyzing, simplifying, and optimizing complex processes; adept at researching and implementing emerging technologies
- Experienced in leadership and mentorship, with the ability to foster high-performing and psychologically safe engineering teams
- Strong competence in maintaining code quality, rigorous testing practices, and robust security standards
- Previous experience collaborating with product managers to align engineering initiatives with strategic business objectives
- Expertise in application reliability, uptime management, and continuous improvement through incident response and post-mortem analysis.
