Job purpose / role
The Allianz SE Reinsurance Singapore branch underwrites Life & Health (L&H) reinsurance across the Asia Pacific region. We are seeking an Actuarial Expert to join our Finance Division.
The role operates within a matrix structure, with day-to-day local oversight by a Senior Actuary in Singapore and a functional reporting line to the Head of Life & Health Actuarial in Germany. The role works closely alongside actuarial colleagues in Singapore and the broader actuarial team in Munich, Germany. The role supports the preparation of key L&H actuarial reporting deliverables for Allianz Re at both Singapore branch and global Allianz Re level, including reserving, IFRS 17, statutory and regulatory reporting, and external audit support.
Key responsibilities
Financial Reporting
• Preparation of actuarial inputs for Singapore branch reporting, internal management reporting and semi-annual local IFRS 17 reporting, in line with local regulatory requirements and internal guidelines.
• Support the global Allianz Re L&H IFRS 17 closing, reporting and planning process, including specific responsibility for assigned areas such as VNB reporting.
• Support the Certifying Actuary workstream for the Singapore branch as needed.
Reserving & Actuarial Analysis
• Execute quarterly reserving in line with regulatory standards and internal guidelines.
• Perform actuarial analyses for assigned business areas, including assumption setting, experience studies and portfolio analytics, with clear explanation of methodology, results and business implications.
• Maintain and enhance cashflow models, including model updates, output review, version management and supporting documentation.
• Implement agreed enhancements to local actuarial tools, models and processes, ensuring robust controls, clear documentation and consistency with L&H actuarial approaches across Allianz Re.
• Support risk capital modelling and model governance activities for the global L&H portfolio as needed, including preparation of analyses, documentation of model changes and implementation of agreed enhancements.
• Provide technical actuarial input to IFRS 17 analyses and assessments (e.g. contract boundary determinations, risk transfer testing) as required.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Communicate actuarial findings and reserving outcomes to relevant stakeholders, including explanation of methodology, key movements and business implications.
• Work closely with Munich L&H Actuarial colleagues and the local Financial Reporting function to support aligned delivery of reporting, reserving, modelling and planning activities.
• Support external audit activities by preparing actuarial analyses, providing documentation of reserving methodologies and assumptions, and responding to Auditor requests.
• Provide actuarial support to Underwriting, Accounting, Controlling, Risk and Financial Reporting teams as required.
• Escalate material technical issues, judgement areas, data concerns or delivery risks in a timely manner.
• Support projects and initiatives as assigned.
Qualification
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Fellow, Associate or nearly qualified member of a recognised actuarial professional body (e.g., FIA, FSA, FIAA, DAV).
Experience & Key skills
Experience
• Minimum 5 years of actuarial experience in the life insurance or reinsurance industry (or consulting), ideally within a multinational organisation.
• Advanced knowledge and experience of IFRS 17 principles, methodologies and requirements.
• Knowledge of Singapore regulatory reporting requirements (e.g. MAS 133) is highly advantageous.
• Robust knowledge of L&H business financials and actuarial concepts, including reserving and pricing techniques, rate development and regulatory frameworks.
Technical Skills
• Advanced Excel/VBA skills are required.
• Experience with actuarial modelling platforms (e.g., RAFM, Prophet, AXIS) preferred.
• Proficiency in programming languages (Python, R, SQL) or statistical software (SAS) advantageous.
• Practical experience using AI-enabled tools, automation or advanced analytics to improve actuarial modelling, reporting, documentation or process efficiency is advantageous.
