Due to exceptional growth, Deloitte’s market-leading Private Client Services (“PCS”) team in Reading is seeking an accomplished Director. This pivotal role will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction and driving the continued expansion of the practice.

This presents a significant opportunity for a highly accomplished PCS professional to join our leadership team. You will be instrumental in cultivating and sustaining robust, long-term client relationships as a trusted advisor, leveraging your deep expertise to drive innovation and accelerate growth.

Working closely with the Reading-based UK leader of Deloitte’s PCS practice, you will lead the delivery of complex and strategic tax advice to an enviable portfolio of private clients. This includes entrepreneurs, private business owners, domestic and international family groups, and ultra/high-net-worth individuals and their family offices.

You will play a crucial leadership role in client service delivery, driving significant business growth, and building a high-performing team. This encompasses proactively identifying and securing new engagements, enhancing personal and firm eminence, and directly contributing to and shaping the strategic direction of the practice.

Deloitte PCS is truly a UK-wide practice, with extensive collaboration between London and regional offices, this providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to work with multiple Partners and form great working relationships beyond their immediate office location.

Our Directors take the lead on delivering key parts of our client services.  As a Director you will use your commercial awareness and professional expertise, along with leveraging the skills and expertise of others, to deliver the best possible experience and outcomes for our clients.  You will own and manage key elements of a client relationship and will be expected to proactively identify innovative solutions for your clients and pursue new business development opportunities by utilising your networks and market knowledge.

Our Directors are people managers or act as coaches and role models to the more junior members of their team.  You will be a confident team player and enjoy sharing your knowledge and expertise with others, as well as continuing to build your own technical expertise or specialism.

Your role and responsibilities within our team will include:

• Providing exemplary leadership and acting as a role model, offering technical and soft skills guidance to the team.
• Assisting the Partner in the strategic leadership and management of the team, driving entrepreneurial behaviours and challenging the status quo to enhance practice efficiency and growth.
• Fostering an environment of technical and commercial excellence.
• Identifying and capitalising on commercial opportunities, driving initiatives to develop new services or exploit underserviced markets.
• Contributing to the strategic direction of the group by leveraging a deep understanding of market opportunities and challenges.
• Leading the delivery of complex and strategic tax advice to key clients, often involving cross-jurisdictional and multi-competency solutions.
• Proactively identifying and pursuing opportunities to cross-sell Deloitte’s full portfolio of services to clients.
• Establishing and nurturing strong, long-term client relationships that generate a consistent stream of income for the firm.
• Driving business growth by winning new work from both existing and new clients, including expanding existing client portfolios and introducing new services.
• Building and enhancing personal brand and eminence, both internally and externally, to cultivate a network of contacts who regularly refer projects and clients.
• Building, coaching, and developing more junior members of the team, fostering their professional growth and technical capabilities.
• Ensuring consistent achievement of billing and cash targets, and implementing measures to improve gross margin.
• Managing risk appropriately for both clients and the firm, ensuring adherence to all risk procedures.

Successful candidates will possess:

• Extensive experience in a leading practice or family office, demonstrating readiness for senior leadership.
• Full ICAEW or CTA qualification (or equivalent), with proven technical excellence in advising client with complex financial affairs.
• Exceptional strategic planning and prioritisation skills to manage significant client portfolios and team resources.
• Proven ability to cultivate and sustain robust, long-term client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
• Exceptional drive and entrepreneurial spirit to exceed client expectations and innovate service delivery.
• Established track record as a work winner, securing new engagements and growing client portfolios.
• Deep understanding of the private client market, with a strategic vision for growth.
• Highly developed communication and presentation skills.
• Exceptional business acumen and acute commercial awareness.
• Proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships across the firm and external networks.
• Extensive experience in leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams, fostering an inclusive culture and environment.

Tax

Our comprehensive range of services encompasses everything from the completion of tax returns to complex consultancy assignments and strategic tax planning. We advise on corporate and general tax, international M&A, stamp tax, cross-border transfer pricing, reorganisations and reconstructions, and competent authority negotiations.

Personal independence

Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm).
