Within the Innovation & Data team of Generali Real Estate, we are looking for a highly skilled Data Engineer & AI Platforms Senior Associate who will play a key role in the evolution of our Data & AI ecosystem.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Data & AI architectures, cloud technologies, scalable software development and production deployment practices. The role is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining scalable Data & AI architectures and developing data solutions that ensure the timely and accurate availability of data across the organization.
This position sits at the intersection of Data Engineering, Platform Engineering and AI Enablement, with a strong focus on building production-grade solutions. The successful candidate will work closely with Data Scientists to industrialize AI models and with business stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of data-driven and AI-powered solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and evolve the core components of the Data & AI Platform, providing technical leadership on architectural decisions and ensuring a scalable, reliable and future-ready foundation that supports advanced analytics, predictive AI and Generative AI use cases across the organization.
- Build and oversee robust, scalable and high-performance data pipelines, establishing engineering best practices to ensure efficient data ingestion, transformation and distribution, while embedding data quality, observability and governance by design.
- Drive the evolution of the platform roadmap, assessing emerging technologies, identifying innovation opportunities and contributing to the definition of the long-term Data & AI architecture strategy.
- Lead the industrialization of predictive and Generative AI solutions, partnering with Data Scientists to transform prototypes and experimentation into secure, scalable and production-ready assets capable of delivering measurable business value.
- Design and implement standards, engineering frameworks and reusable components, promoting consistency, accelerating delivery and enabling teams to develop and deploy solutions more efficiently across the Data & AI ecosystem.
- Champion data governance practices across the platform, ensuring effective implementation of metadata management, data cataloging, lineage, taxonomy and governance processes that enhance transparency, trust and discoverability of enterprise data assets.
- Implement and continuously improve data governance capabilities, including metadata management, data cataloging, lineage, taxonomy and governance processes that ensure transparency, discoverability and trust.
- Develop and continuously enhance Data & AI observability capabilities, driving best practices for monitoring, alerting, data quality management, lineage tracking and platform reliability.
- Optimize platform performance, scalability and cloud consumption, leveraging FinOps principles and engineering best practices to maximize operational efficiency and long-term sustainability.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, Data Scientists, Data Analysts and technology teams, translating complex business and technical requirements into scalable solutions that enable data-driven and AI-powered decision making.
- Enable the adoption of Data & AI capabilities across the organization, providing self-service services, accelerators and reusable solutions that empower business teams and accelerate innovation

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering or similar roles.
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
- Solid background in software engineering and designing scalable systems
- Proven experience designing and operating data pipelines, ETL/ELT frameworks and enterprise-scale data platforms.
- Strong knowledge of data analysis, data modeling, data lakehouse and data warehousing architectures.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and DevOps practices, including Terraform, GitHub and CI/CD pipelines.
- Hands‑on knowledge of cloud (storage, compute, networking, identity), AWS (preferred)
- Experience defining architecture standards, engineering best practices and reusable frameworks.
- Experience deploying and operating Data & AI solutions in production environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Fluent in Italian and English
Nice to have:
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Experience with modern Data & AI architecture and platforms
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with Data and ML Observability tools and practices
- Experience with NoSQL databases
- Experience to Generative AI solutions (LLMs, orchestration frameworks, MCP servers)
- Experience with Data Governance tools (Purview, Collibra, Alation) and metadata/lineage management.
- Experience designing and evolving cloud-native and enterprise-scale data platforms.
- Experience in contributing to the adoption of engineering best practices
What we offer
The role is offered within Middle Management Employees (Quadri Direttivi I), under the National Collective Labour Agreement for the Banking Sector (CCNL Credito) and the applicable Company Collective Agreement (Contratto Integrativo Aziendale). The starting gross annual salary is €51,000. The final offer will reflect the candidate’s professional experience and the technical and interpersonal competences required for the position and may include an individual variable compensation component.
