Job Description

Visa's Corporate IT (CIT) organization is on a transformational journey to redefine how enterprise technology enables global business scale, resilience, and employee productivity. We are moving beyond traditional infrastructure models toward software-defined, automated, cloud-integrated platforms that deliver security, reliability, and exceptional user experience at global scale.

As part of this journey, the candidate will join a platform engineering team as a backend and systems-focused engineer, designing, developing, and implementing cross-platform client software and large-scale back-end microservices. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience building solutions for functionally complex, large-volume, high-throughput, data-centric distributed systems, with strong hands-on depth in Go and Java.

The successful candidate is expected to be a design, coding, and configuration expert, and will help advance the engineering craft of the team related to architecture, distributed-systems design, code quality, scalability, resiliency, and CI/CD.

Key responsibilities:

Primary:

• Design, build, and maintain a cross-platform agent/plugin in Go (Golang).
• Design and build back-end microservices and APIs in Java / Spring Boot with a high level of scalability, resiliency, and monitoring.
• Build and operate an Apache Kafka–based streaming pipeline (producers/consumers), including partitioning, consumer groups, and delivery/lag management, across an Active/Active multi–data-center topology.
• Containerize and deploy services using Docker and Kubernetes, and help define deployment, scaling, and operational patterns.
• Work with data stores — ClickHouse (or an equivalent columnar/analytical store), PostgreSQL, and Redis — including schema/data-model design and building efficient queries.
• Design and build GenAI-powered features and integrations — e.g., natural-language interfaces, LLM-assisted workflows, and agentic automation — integrating with LLM APIs and tooling.
• Contribute to the React front end as needed (secondary to back-end/agent work) and collaborate with UI-focused engineers on API contracts.
• Manage complex, multi-service dependencies across environments and data centers.
• Work with business partners, TPMs, and Product Managers to drive user-story grooming, functional/technical specifications, workflow designs, and use cases.
• Contribute to and help shape engineering best practices for the team.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies, conduct POCs to prove concepts, and select the best solution approach.
• Work with limited direction within a complex distributed environment to drive delivery of solutions and meet service levels.
• Must be self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced agile delivery model, collaborating with effective communication, quality, integrity, and reliable delivery.

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager. 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work Experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD)
• 5 or more years of relevant experience in application development (designing, coding, and testing), with strong hands-on depth in back-end and systems programming.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or another Engineering discipline.
• Strong hands-on experience with Go (Golang), building cross-platform plugins/agents.
• Solid experience in core Java and Spring Boot, building production back-end services; multithreaded/concurrent and high-throughput processing experience is important.
• Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka (producers/consumers, partitioning, consumer groups, offsets/lag, delivery semantics).
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes — building, containerizing, deploying, and operating services.
• Solid experience with microservices architecture and distributed-systems design — service decomposition, inter-service communication (REST/messaging), statelessness, fault tolerance, and designing for scalability, high availability, and multi–data-center (Active/Active) operation.
• Demonstrated knowledge of RDBMS and SQL, with hands-on PostgreSQL experience; ability to build complex queries from a solid understanding of the data model.
• Experience with ClickHouse or an equivalent columnar / analytical database (or willingness to ramp quickly), and with Redis for caching.
• Experience building GenAI / LLM integrations — working with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and/or agent/tool (function-calling, MCP) integrations — and applying them to real product features.
• Experience configuring CI/CD pipelines using industry-standard tools such as Git and Jenkins.
• Working knowledge of a modern JavaScript framework (React preferred).
• A fast learner and quick adapter — able to ramp rapidly on new technologies, domains, and unfamiliar codebases, and to be productive with limited direction.
• Enjoy working fast and smart, and able to grasp complex concepts and build algorithms from scratch.
• Proficiency with Agile development techniques.
• Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and communication (written and verbal) skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly.
• Ability to work in a complex organization to determine business and customer needs and provide the best solution.
• Candidate must be able to proficiently multi-task, with a strong teamwork focus and the ability to foster collaboration within and across teams.
• Passionate about learning and applying new technologies and takes pride in delivering working software.
