This is a hybrid role (4 days in the office / 1 days remote)
Interactive Brokers Canada Inc is looking for an Anti-Money Laundering (AML)/EDD Financial Intelligence Unit Analyst for its Montreal office. An excellent level of English is required to access documents, resources, and to communicate with our international affiliates.
The analyst will review and analyze the account activity of the firm’s customers to identify potential offenses of money laundering and terrorist financing, in addition to other activities consistent with financial crime. IBKR does not use vendor solutions but builds its own proprietary surveillance capability, leveraging its historical proprietary trading background.
Responsibilities:
- Operate as part of a team of AML professionals conducting ongoing surveillance and investigations on client activities, where applicable, supporting management with escalations of identified material activity.
- Become proficient with the firm’s case management tool, to ensure all monitoring and reporting activities are effectively documented in compliance with internal standards and regulatory expectations.
- Execute a review of the client profile and activity history to determine whether there is a reasonable and appropriate rationale for the identified transaction(s).
- Document concise and consistent risk-based rationale for alert/investigation conclusions in line with internal and regulatory requirements.
- Perform work within the established timeframes and meet standards for Quality Assurance and Key Performance Indicator benchmarks.
- Assist in responding to queries/addressing escalations received from the 1LOD
- Assists in developing and implementing work paper templates, documentation standards, and processes for knowledge sharing across regional teams.
- Assist management in responding to external requests for information resulting from FIU activities and other ad-hoc obligations (e.g., collate MI Dashboards, support completion of any program assessments and process enhancements, etc.);
- Communicating and working closely with regional surveillance partners and business stakeholders to enable the effective exchange of information needed to facilitate a consistent risk-based approach across IBKR’s multiple markets and operating entities;
- Provide ongoing support in developing policies and procedures, executing Quality Assurance, and facilitating escalations and feedback.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of work experience in transaction monitoring of ML/TF risk and financial crimes, in particular concerning domestic and international payment activities, preferably gained at a large Securities Dealer, other financial institution or Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO);
- Experience identifying red flags/typologies associated with financial crimes;
- Experience filing Suspicious Transactions Reports and Gatekeepers
- Ability to understand and break down trading strategies
- A university/college degree is required. Acceptable majors include Finance, Accounting, Math, Computer Science or Law.
- Registered with CIRO as a Supervisor or the ability to complete the Supervisors Exam under the new Proficiency Model within 6 months upon hiring is required.
- ACAMS, CFCS, or other similar Compliance diploma or accreditation or the ability to complete it within 1 year upon hiring.
- High proficiency with desktop applications and MS Office suite of products is required.
