This is the start of your career as a Knowledge Lawyer. You will already have worked in a practice area and have proven technical and commercial expertise. In this Associate (Knowledge) role, your time will be focused on developing your technical specialism, delivering knowledge and research to the lawyer community and contributing to the firm’s knowledge and learning. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to seek new experiences and to grow your expertise, supported by the firm’s development programme.
At this stage of your career your responsibilities may include:
Technical Capability
- Proactively develop your technical knowledge and experience, sharing developments and practical application with lawyers and clients.
- Provide technically accurate, commercial advice with confidence, clarity and good judgement,.
- Use and advise lawyers on the most effective and efficient legal sources and research.
- Use a solid understanding of matter and transaction types, workflows and matter management tools to draft accurate, commercial documentation that lawyers can apply and clients can understand.
- Create client publications in a business-friendly style using appropriate templates and format.
Client Development
- Establish positive relationships with lawyers and business teams, seeking to understand their objectives and responding promptly to their enquiries.
- Engage with colleagues to identify potential client opportunities and contribute to marketing publications and pitches.
- Develop and use your internal network to deliver a co-ordinated team approach.
- Prioritise work in line with target clients, markets and products.
Work Management
- Operate autonomously, planning and delivering projects to a high standard and communicating progress to key stakeholders.
- Work well under pressure and show persistence in seeking input from and review by lawyers.
- Apply the principles of process mapping, documenting processes and checklists to increase efficiency.

- Establish collaborative and supportive working relationships, encouraging colleagues to participate and share opinions.
