Internship: Human Rights / Prevention and Protection – Case Information Management in Bogotá, Colombia.
Assist in data collection, analysis, and reporting on human rights cases, supporting UN Prevention and Protection workstream.
Duties and Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities of the intern will depend on the individual's background and may include, but are not limited to:
- • Supporting the collection, organization and systematization of information related to allegations and cases handled under the Prevention and Protection workstream.
- • Supporting the collection, systematization, analysis and synthesis of information related to allegations, cases and diverse situations concerning possible human rights violations.
- • Assisting in the preparation of internal notes and analytical summaries based on collected information.
- • Supporting the updating and maintenance of internal tracking tools and databases.
- • Assisting in monitoring relevant developments related to prevention and protection trends and cases, as required.
- • Performing other duties as requested by the supervisor, as appropriate
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Academic background in law, international relations, political science or related fields is desirable. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with structured information. The ability to work collaboratively and manage information in a systematic manner is desirable. Ability to analyze, organize and synthesize information, as well as to draft clear analytical summaries, is desirable. Experience with data organization and use of spreadsheets or databases is an asset.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for the internship. Knowledge of English or another official United Nations language is an advantage.
