Duties and Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities of the intern will depend on the individual's background and may include, but are not limited to:
- Receiving, organizing and registering information and communications addressed to the Office through various channels.
- Supporting the collection, organization and systematization of information related to allegations, cases and diverse situations concerning possible human rights violations.
- Assisting in the preparation of internal notes based on collected information.
- Assisting in the timely referral of incoming information to relevant focal points, teams or mechanisms, in accordance with established internal procedures.
- Supporting the systematization and tracking of incoming requests and communications.
- Supporting coordination with relevant teams to ensure effective information flow within the Office.
- Performing other duties as requested by the supervisor, as appropriate.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Academic background in law, international relations, political science, public administration or related fields is desirable. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. We are looking for candidates who are collaborative, reliable, and demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion. Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team are desirable. Ability to organize and systematize information, draft clear and concise notes, and manage multiple tasks efficiently is desirable. Ability to interact with diverse stakeholders in a professional manner is an asset.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for the internship. Knowledge of English or another official United Nations language is an advantage.
