Job Description
Primary functions and essential responsibilities
Responsible for accounting for Management fees, multiple other fee streams (Administrative Fees, Other Property related fees):
End to end accounting for assigned fee types and business segments – cash bookings to quarter end revenue recognition, BS account reconciliations
Managing end to end invoicing process for assigned fee streams and geographical regions
End to end accounting for various rebates or offsets given to Investors or Funds
Determining accounting treatment, getting Oracle set ups for subledger accounting for newly launched Funds / any new fee types received based on review of Limited Partnership Agreements
Detailed QoQ variance analysis for reviews of Sr. Mgmt at quarter end
Detailed forecast analysis along with forecast versus actuals variance analysis
Responsibilities over agency fee allocations between management company and funds utilizing relevant investment reporting systems
Preparing manual journal entries for various revenue areas as required
Supporting end to end time certification process to arrive at allocations to the Funds. This process involves partnering with relevant stakeholders including Fund accounting teams, external and internal IT team, Ares leadership etc.
Supporting accounting for Management Co’s Investment related activities:
Processing Capital Call and Distribution notices
Liasing with the Fund Accounting Team and Accounts Payables team to ensure capital call funding timelines are met
Accounting for realizations related to all Investment related activities
Supporting analyzing, solutioning and operationalizing best in class accounting practices, including:
Assessing and documenting current state and working with other parties and peers to benchmark against best practices.
Seeking end-to-end accounting and reporting with minimal manual intervention.
Directing IT team to operationalize changes and efficiencies identified.
Helping to automate other accounting and financial reporting requirements.
Support internal reporting requirements and other ad-hoc requests of various internal users including other finance and accounting teams, auditors, etc.
Other duties as assigned by management. Clear growth path through other revenue stream ownership as mastery of assigned work is displayed.
Qualifications
Education: Recently qualified Chartered Accountant or with 1 - 2 years of experience.
Experience: Public accounting experience preferred. Financial services experience is preferred. Exposure to corporate accounting, investment accounting, fund accounting, and SEC reporting is strongly preferred.
General Requirements: Excellent communication and writing skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail but can still see big picture. Ability to identify and analyze problems and to develop an effective course of action. Desire to own issues and be accountable.
