Senior Underwriter – lead underwriting for Swiss Re Life & Health in Singapore, driving client relationships and risk assessment across SEA.
Full-time on-site role, requiring 10+ years experience in life & health insurance underwriting and strong analytical, leadership skills.
About the Role
As a member of the SEA Life & Health team based in Singapore, your role will be to build and maintain client relationships as well as to provide first class underwriting related services to Swiss Re’s Life & Health clients in the Southeast Asia region. You will be required to work as a member of a high-performance team and to demonstrate and develop adequate technical and interpersonal skills, so you can strongly contribute to achieving Swiss Re's strategic and commercial objectives.
Main Task and Responsibilities
Delivers core underwriting services to clients assess data, medical, and financial documents to provide accurate and competitive life risk selection
Implements company’s underwriting policy, principles and ensures risks assumed on a sound and profitable basis
Participates and offers underwriting expertise in departmental or company-wide activities and projects
Supporting the Underwriting team to assess and manage case referrals
Supports new products development and offer underwriting expertise as required.
Supports internal Quality Assurance, governance, peer review and internal trainings.
Adopts a partnering approach when carrying out underwriting and audits with clients
Maintain awareness, knowledge of insurance/takaful products and concepts, as well as changes in industry initiatives (regulatory, product development, technology, etc.) and principles of risk selection
Develops, supports, and conducts continuing underwriting education by actively participating in external training programs, meetings, and webinars
Support Swiss Re market presence via delivery of presentations and sharing of company initiatives, news, and events via social media
Manage the day-to-day operations to carry out his/her responsibilities effectively.
Able to effectively work in a team environment, sharing certain responsibilities and supporting mutual dependencies through effective communication and collaboration.
Travel as required for meetings, industry conferences and client office visits.
About the Team
We are part of Life & Health Reinsurance Southeast Asia team focusing on Life & Health underwriting and claims support. The SEA L&H Underwriting & Claims team supports our clients on new product development opportunities leveraging on our underwriting expertise and claims management experience. We work collaboratively with our clients and stakeholders to proactively manage risks, improve risk appetite and embrace new changes in risk philosophy. About You
Minimum 10 years’ relevant Life & Health insurance or reinsurance underwriting experience, preferably with regional exposure
University Degree or similar qualification
Good understanding as well as knowledge of the insurance/reinsurance industry with broad range of products experience with authorities reflecting this
Knowledge of local markets' underwriting practice, regulation and product features.
The ability to conduct client audits and develop training materials from audit findings to strengthen client's technical knowledge.
Strong analytical skills and meticulous with a keen eye for details.
Ability to work independently, self-starter, able to work under pressure and manage deadlines.
Good team player, able to interact with people at various levels
Ability to adapt to changes and implement them accordingly
Courage to challenge the status quo and to explore new ideas that can improve our business.
Negotiation, communication, influencing and presentation skills.
Strong computer skills (i.e. Outlook/Word/Excel/Power Point).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
