Purpose of the role

To provide data-led expert oversight and check and challenge on business and compliance matters to evidence that the organisation is operating in a compliance with Barclays legal, regulatory and ethical responsibilities. 

Accountabilities

• Identification and assessment of compliance risks through thorough reviews of business activities, changes, processes, testing and systems to.
• Identification and investigation of potential market abuse, including but not limited to, Insider Dealing, Unlawful Disclosure, Market Manipulation or Anti-Competitive Conduct.
• Conduct investigation of compliance risk events or breaches. Oversight and check and challenge of corrective actions and preventative measures to avoid future occurrences.
• Implementation of compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and ensuring that the bank’s internal policies are aligned with international standards, including jurisdictional requirements.
• Collaboration with 1LOD, other relevant Compliance teams and legal, and relevant risk management functions to facilitate a comprehensive approach to compliance and risk management.
• Identification, investigation and oversight of potential money laundering, terrorist financing or other financial crime.

Join us as a Product Specialist - Payments (GTB), where you will be a payments product expert to sit within the Financial Crime Advisory team and provide specialist advice on wire transfer and payment products. The role will act as the advisory bridge between Payments Product, Coverage, Technology, Operations, Compliance, Legal, Risk and Financial Crime teams, ensuring that payment products, change initiatives and client propositions are designed, assessed, and delivered with appropriate consideration of financial crime, sanctions, regulatory, operational, and reputational risk. The successful candidate will bring deep knowledge of domestic and cross-border payments, SWIFT, ISO 20022, correspondent banking, payment transparency, and emerging payment risks, and will be able to provide practical, risk-based advice that supports safe growth, effective governance, and strong client outcomes. This role is suited to an experienced payments product expert who wants to operate within a Financial Crime Advisory team, using deep product knowledge to advise, challenge and support the business on wire transfer and payment products. The successful candidate will combine technical payments expertise with strong financial crime judgement and the ability to provide practical, proportionate, and commercially aware advice across product governance, change, and risk management activity. Key Responsibilities include:

• Act as the financial crime risk product expert for wire transfers and payments within Financial Crime Advisory, advising on product design, new product approvals, product enhancements, strategic change, and decommissioning activity.
• Provide practical advice on financial crime, sanctions, and regulatory considerations across payment products, including Wire Transfer Regulations, payment transparency, UK Money Laundering Regulations, FATF Recommendation 16, correspondent banking obligations, and cross-border payment risks.
• Challenge and support risk assessments for payment products, channels, jurisdictions, third-party integrations, and transformation initiatives, ensuring appropriate controls are considered across screening, monitoring, due diligence, data quality, and payment transparency.
• Represent Financial Crime Advisory in product governance forums, payment risk discussions, and strategic change programmes, providing clear advisory input, constructive challenge, and senior management-ready updates.
• Partner with Product, Technology, Operations, Compliance, Legal, Risk and Financial Crime teams to ensure payment products are commercially viable, operationally deliverable and aligned to policy, regulatory and control expectations.
• Support capability building by translating complex payment product and financial crime requirements into clear guidance, training, and practical advice for stakeholders.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Significant experience in payments, wire transfer products, product management, product risk or Financial Crime Advisory within a banking, transaction banking, or payments environment.
• Deep understanding of SWIFT MT, ISO 20022, domestic and cross-border payments, correspondent banking, payment transparency, and financial crime risks associated with payment products.
• Experience advising on product governance, new product approvals, regulatory change, strategic transformation, or payment technology initiatives.
• Strong understanding of AML, sanctions, payment screening, transaction monitoring, customer due diligence, correspondent banking, and regulatory expectations relevant to payments.
• Ability to operate as a trusted advisor within an advisory team, balancing commercial objectives with regulatory, financial crime and control requirements.
• Strong stakeholder management, influencing, communication, judgement, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain complex matters clearly to senior and non-technical audiences.
