Description: Result of Service

The Strategic Communications Specialist will serve as the principal communications adviser to the Director on matters relating to the Archive Initiative, leading the development of strategic communications, cultivating relationships with key stakeholders and partners, and identifying opportunities to strengthen collaboration, advocacy, and institutional support. The Strategic Communications Specialist also will establish and coordinate an advisory stakeholder structure for the Initiative, facilitating strategic engagement and supporting governance arrangements that contribute to the achievement of program objectives.

Work Location

Amman, Jordan or other location subject to approval.

Expected duration

12 months, renewable upon satisfactory performance evaluation and funds availability.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Strategic Communications Specialist provides strategic leadership for communications, stakeholder engagement, governance, and partnerships in support of the Relief and Social Services Department (RSSD) Archive Initiative. Reporting directly to the Director, RSSD, the Strategic Communications Specialist will develop and implement strategic communications and stakeholder engagement strategies that support the successful implementation, visibility, and long‑term sustainability of the Initiative. The Strategic Communications Specialist will serve as the principal communications adviser to the Director on matters relating to the Archive Initiative, leading the development of strategic communications, cultivating relationships with key stakeholders and partners, and identifying opportunities to strengthen collaboration, advocacy, and institutional support. The Strategic Communications Specialist will serve as the principal communications adviser to the Director on matters relating to the Archive Initiative, leading the development of strategic communications, cultivating relationships with key stakeholders and partners, and identifying opportunities to strengthen collaboration, advocacy, and institutional support. The Strategic Communications Specialist supports the strategic positioning of the UNRWA Archive Initiative through communications, stakeholder engagement, and partnership development.

Qualifications/special skills

EDUCATION Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Communications, Strategic Communications, Public Affairs, International Relations, Journalism, Political Science, History, Museum Studies, Cultural Heritage Management, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or another related field.

EXPERIENCE 1) A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in strategic communications, public affairs, external relations, stakeholder engagement, partnership development, advocacy, or a related field. This must include at least 2 years of international relevant experience outside of the candidate's home country, country of citizenship and country where the candidate have permanent residence. 2) Experience developing and implementing strategic communications and stakeholder engagement strategies for complex, multi-stakeholder programs, institutional initiatives, or organizational change projects is required. 3) Experience providing strategic communications or stakeholder engagement advice to senior management is required. 4) Experience developing high-quality senior management communications, including briefing notes, presentations, reports, and other strategic communications products is required. 5) Experience establishing and managing strategic partnerships with governments, international organizations, academic institutions, cultural organizations, civil society organizations, diaspora communities, or other strategic stakeholders is required. 6) Experience working on issues relating to Palestine refugees, Palestinian history and heritage, or the Middle East region is desirable. 7) Experience engaging with diaspora communities, networks, or representative organizations to support institutional objectives, partnerships, advocacy, or outreach is desirable. 8) Experience supporting governance bodies, advisory boards, steering committees, or other high-level coordination mechanisms is desirable. 9) Experience working in the humanitarian, development, cultural heritage, or international cooperation sectors is desirable. 10) Experience within the United Nations system or another international organization is desirable.

Languages

Excellent command of written and spoken English. Working knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Additional Information

Remuneration will be set at 7,500 USD per month.
