Senior Manager of Digital Product Design – Design Systems, leading a cross‑functional team at RBC in Toronto.
Drive mobile native design system strategy, empower teams, and shape product vision in an Agile environment.
As a leader of the Design System team, you will make decisions to empower your team to make work efficient, effective, and enjoyable. You will provide thought leadership in order to set up a high-performing product design team and operationalize and organize the team within an Agile framework in a scrum or lean UX model. You will optimize the effectiveness of the design team over time within a collaborative, cross-functional, matrixed enterprise environment.
What will you do?
- Provide product design direction & oversight of a mobile native design system product at scale
- Formulate and validate design hypotheses through iterative releases of MVP to align objectives with the needs of internal design and engineering teams
- Align to Agile methodology and promote a test-and-learn approach to build, deliver, and refine the right products for the right audiences in the right ways
- Facilitate demos, presentations, workshops, and stakeholder sessions with all partners, including business, product, technology, risk, legal, etc. around product objectives and priorities
- Empower a team to succeed with a shared vision; delegating authority, and removing obstacles that hinder progress
- Establish a cadence for regular check-ins and empower your team to manage the day-to-day tasks, checking in often enough to ensure they are on track to deliver value against our business objectives without micro-managing
- Provide career, leadership development, coaching, and guidance through recurring team and one-on-one check-ins. Manage, mentor, motivate, lead, and inspire the team to constantly deliver excellence in performance and in behaviors aligned with the Leadership Model
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
- At least 10 years of experience as a designer with a minimum of 3-5 years experience leading teams and complex digital projects
- Experience with design systems and working closely with engineering partners
- Highly skilled in modern design, and prototyping tools such as Figma
- Familiarity of HTML/CSS, JavaScript with a solid understanding of system design
- A systematic thinker who seeks patterns and is comfortable with ambiguity
- Project management skills to plan, and analyze resources in order to meet delivery requirements
- Experience coaching and mentoring team members
Nice to have:
- Industry experience with Financial Institutions
- Comfortable with various front-end technology platforms
