Associate Director – Balance Sheet & Settlement Control at Standard Chartered, Kuala Lumpur
Lead risk assurance, governance, and process improvement across Global Market Operations.
Job Summary
This role with Standard Chartered forms part of the 1st line of defence Operational Risk function, focussed on driving risk assurance and governance across the Global Market Operations functional streams and Balance Sheet Substantiation. Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Information Technology & Operations (ITO) has a dedicated Global Market Operations which supports market clients and products within Corporate & Institutional Banking (C&IB). GM Operations (GMO) has responsibility for the execution, control and continuous improvement of processes to support our Products & Clients.
Strategy
Support in ensuring Substantiation globally meets Financial Group Standards
Risk Management
- • On a regular basis challenge Account Owners to provide evidence of substantiation and ensure this covers the full suite of accounts over a pre-defined period.
- • Where gaps are found assess the status of the risk with both Operations and PC and report accordingly. Be prepared to challenge the Risk Status and elevate. Ensure these gaps are tracked until closed.
- • Monitor the ageing of breaks with aim to reduce acceptable timeframe to industry standards.
- • Analyse and determine improvements to Operational and Reconciliation processes to ensure process failures do not re-occur.
Governance
- • Monthly Balance Sheet Substantiation (BSS) review.
- • Overview of Reconciliation process and its interaction with the Substantiation process, specifically with regards automated reconciliations. Aim to fully automate all reconciliations.
- • Liaise with Product Control (PC) and Finance on BSS findings.
- • Assist with FCA substantiation process.
- • Liaise with Audit teams when required

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent Chartered Accountant 8 - 10 years of experience in similar roles Balance Sheet Management experience from an accounting background preferable
