Job Summary

As an Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing delivery of high-quality, innovative products and solutions. Your role will involve strategic planning, technical leadership, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and operations, to drive the development of scalable and reliable systems.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities

This position’s main responsibility is to lead AI strategy and execution within Wealth Retail Banking Tech. The Engineering Lead will drive end-to-end implementation of AI solutions— provide engineering solution by working with cross functional team on identified use cases, shaping the technical roadmap on AI Adoption across wealth solutions.

Skills set

We are seeking someone with direct experience designing and deploying AI and machine learning solutions at scale. Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages, familiarity with data engineering and model development frameworks, and experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) are required. Leadership in AI projects, knowledge of MLOps, and a proven track record of integrating AI into customer-facing products are essential. Familiar with open source AI toolkit such as Claude, Co-pilot etc.

• Improve engineering processes to drive efficiency and collaboration.
• Analyse and mitigate dependencies to enable quality and speed of delivery.
• Drive solution standardization and service reusability.
• Define frameworks and standards for product.
• Actively contribute to process improvement and innovation
• Collaborate with IT Change and Release Managers to develop strategic delivery and release plans with technical dependencies.
• Ensure high-level technical consistency of solution with business and enterprise technology standards.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within squads.

• Able to influence technical adoption by squad teams

Risk Management

• Mitigate technical risks & ensure high-quality delivery.
• Ensure compliance with application security and regulatory standards.
• Manage technical risks throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Support required solution to achieve ERR Treatment plan
• Proactively identify and address potential risks.
• Ensure compliance with bank compliance guidelines & standards (e.g. data protection)

Governance

• Ensure product and solution development is aligned with enterprise architecture and standards.
• Maintain consistency in technical practices across squads.
• Lead governance of application/platform-specific technical standards.
• Address tech compliance (ESDLC) requirements throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Represent sub domain in relevant architecture forum and drive vendor solutions in accordance with organizational standards.

Regulatory & Business Conduct

• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Application Delivery Process

• Proven experience in managing and delivering complex technical projects in an enterprise environment.
• Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring quality and timely delivery.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience with Agile and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies.
• Capability to coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Specific examples of past project management successes, demonstrating effective leadership and delivery.

Technical Skills

• Strong engineering background with extensive experience in delivering high-quality technical solutions in an enterprise environment.
• Ability to interact with APIs, databases, and other technical components.
• Proficiency in understanding code and its implications on the system, enabling effective technical conversations and decision-making.
• Knowledge of modern software development practices and tools.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

Problem Solving

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills honed through years of practical experience in the field.
• Ability to think critically and make sound technical decisions under pressure.
• Experience in identifying, diagnosing, and addressing complex technical problems.
• Capability to balance short-term fixes with long‑term solutions, leveraging past experiences to guide decisions.

Technical Aptitude

• Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and best practices in architecture.
• Ability to design scalable, reliable, and secure solutions based on extensive industry experience.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, version control systems).
• Experience in setting up and maintaining engineering practices to high standards, with tangible examples from previous roles.
• Ability to drive technical conversations and provide mentorship based on a wealth of practical experience.

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, crucial for effective interaction in an enterprise environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Certifications: Relevant certifications in software development, project management, or Agile methodologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, PMP, Certified ScrumMaster)
