Job Description
PIMCO is seeking a Chief Compliance Officer, Head of Compliance for Southeast Asia. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of PIMCO’s Compliance program across the region.
The role will require building strong relationships across Southeast Asia, as well as regionally in APAC and globally with PIMCO’s headquarters and offices worldwide. This includes close engagement with Legal and Compliance, Portfolio Management, Account Management, and Operations, as well as regular interaction with Senior Management.
This is a highly strategic leadership role, positioned to act as a trusted advisor and business partner to the business. The successful candidate will support PIMCO’s growth strategy by providing practical, commercially focused and solutions-oriented regulatory guidance, enabling business initiatives while maintaining a robust and scalable compliance framework.
The role will also involve regular interaction with regulators, internal and external auditors, and clients.
Strategic Leadership and Business Partnership
- Develop and execute a regional Compliance strategy aligned with PIMCO’s growth priorities in Southeast Asia
- Act as a strategic advisor to senior management, providing commercially pragmatic guidance on business initiatives, product development, and market expansion
- Partner closely with business functions to identify regulatory risks and opportunities and design solutions that enable growth while maintaining appropriate controls
- Contribute to regional and global initiatives, ensuring Southeast Asia considerations are reflected in broader firm strategy
Compliance Program Oversight
- Devise and implement a comprehensive, forward-looking strategy for assessing and mitigating compliance risks
- Maintain a robust Compliance framework aligned with applicable regulatory requirements and internal standards
- Oversee monitoring, testing, and surveillance programs, ensuring a risk-based and scalable approach
- Draft, review, and maintain policies and procedures in line with regulatory developments and business evolution
Regulatory Engagement and Governance
- Maintain credible and constructive relationships with regulators across Southeast Asia
- Lead regulatory change management and ensure timely implementation across impacted business areas
- Represent Compliance in senior governance forums and provide clear, actionable insights to management
- Contribute to a strong governance framework that supports responsible business growth
Business Support and Enablement
- Partner with Portfolio Management, Account Management and Operations to ensure effective implementation of compliance requirements
- Support business initiatives including new product launches, distribution strategies, and market expansion efforts
- Provide clear, actionable and commercially balanced advice that enables business objectives while managing regulatory risk
- Embed Compliance as a value-added partner within the business
Transformation and Innovation
- Drive the modernisation of the Compliance function through technology, digitisation and the responsible use of artificial intelligence, enhancing monitoring, surveillance, and risk management capabilities
- Partner with regional and global teams to implement data-driven, scalable and efficient compliance solutions
- Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Compliance program through automation and innovation
- Support the integration of technology-enabled controls and tools into the Compliance framework to enhance decision-making and governance
Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and develop the Southeast Asia Compliance team, fostering a high-performance, collaborative and solutions-oriented culture
- Allocate resources effectively across jurisdictions in line with evolving business priorities
- Promote a strong culture of integrity, accountability and risk awareness
- Act as a role model for leadership within the broader APAC Compliance organization
Requirements
Undergraduate degree in Law, Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, or related discipline
Extensive experience in Compliance or Legal roles within asset management or financial services; 12-15 years+ of related experience
Strong knowledge of Southeast Asia regulatory frameworks, with experience operating across multiple jurisdictions
Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and enhancing Compliance programs
Proven ability to support business growth initiatives, including product development, distribution expansion and market entry
Preferred Experience
Asset management (institutional and/or retail)
Fixed income, alternatives, or equities
Distribution and marketing regulatory frameworks
Trading, research, or portfolio management environments
