Junior Investment Analyst – hybrid role in Lisbon focusing on alternative funds, reporting, & process improvement.
Collaborate with European consultants, build monitoring reports for UK pension funds, and drive automation projects.
We are seeking a talented individual to join our Investments team at Mercer. This role will be based in Lisbon. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
You’ll be an integral part of an exciting project, where we support our Wealth business and work directly and daily with other Europe-based Investments Consultants and colleagues.
In the short and medium terms, the role will primarily focus on understanding the rationale behind Alternatives funds, considering documentation, transactions, performance metrics and other relevant financial information. By working on a multi-national team and directly dealing with several stakeholders, the team plays a crucial role from an operational perspective.
Concerning the long-term, you will be responsible for producing various investments monitoring reports for UK pension funds, which include asset allocation, performance, risk analysis, price/performance assessment and strategy updates.
Alongside investment responsibilities, this role offers the opportunity to participate in business transformation projects aimed at enhancing processes, automation, and operational efficiency. Candidates with programming skills and a strong interest in technology, data, and innovation are particularly encouraged to apply.

- Be responsible to receive, validate and upload financial documentation.
- Record capital calls, distributions, fees, and other cash flows.
- Cash flow booking using an internal accounting system.
- Reconcile source documents and relevant transactions.
- Produce investments monitoring reports for pension funds with quantitative and qualitative analysis and performance appraisal.
- Contact external entities (such as asset managers) to validate customer information.
- Compile information and prepare analysis, evaluation and interpretation of results.
- Follow-up with other Mercer teams, suggesting approaches and clarifying details of reports produced.
- Be responsible for thorough analysis of portfolios to help stakeholders make better investment decisions.
- Support Investments consultants when appropriate on a technical perspective (methodologies, assumptions) and client reporting queries.
- Be an agent of change constantly contributing to improve current processes.
- Help implement new projects that will support the team to be more efficient.
What you need to have:
- Degree or Master's in finance, Economics, Management, Mathematics, Engineering, or similar.
- Interest in Investments/Finance.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Fluent English level (fluency in other languages is a plus).
- Proven knowledge and ease with SQL/VBA/Python.
- Attention to detail is critical.
