Fitch Group is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Python based out of our Toronto office.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Design, develop, and maintain robust Python‑based backend services and APIs using FastAPI/ asyncIO, and architect scalable data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and delivery of large datasets

Build and manage streaming and event‑driven architectures using Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, and AWS SQS, and deploy cloud infrastructure on AWS (Lambda, EC2, ECS, S3, RDS, DynamoDB)

Design and optimize both relational and non‑relational databases, and integrate AI/ML models and services, including LLMs and cloud AI APIs

Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, champion containerization with Docker and Kubernetes/ECS, and enforce version control best practices using GitHub

Establish and enforce coding standards, design patterns, and governance frameworks, including architecture decision records, API standards, and security best practices, promoting TDD and clean architecture principles

Lead Proof of Concept (POC) initiatives to evaluate new technologies and present trade‑off analyses and recommendations to stakeholders

Take full end‑to‑end ownership of critical applications, managing incidents, escalations, documentation, performance monitoring, and technical debt

Mentor and coach junior and mid‑level engineers through code reviews, knowledge‑sharing sessions, and tech talks, while contributing to technical roadmaps and platform strategy

Demonstrate strong soft skills including clear communication, collaboration, accountability, adaptability, and a continuous learning mindset

You May be a Good Fit if

7+ years of professional software engineering experience with Python as the primary language

Strong experience with AWS services (e.g., Lambda, S3, ECS/EKS, SQS, RDS, DynamoDB, IAM)

Hands‑on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CodePipeline, Jenkins, or equivalent)

Experience with dbt (Data Build Tool), Airflow, or similar data pipeline orchestration tools

Proficiency with GitHub workflows, pull requests, and collaborative development practices

Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle) including query optimization and schema design

Experience with non‑relational databases (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch)

Practical experience with message brokers and streaming platforms (Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS)

Experience building RESTful/GraphQL APIs with FastAPI (or equivalent frameworks such as Flask/Django REST/asyncIO )

Experience designing and building data pipelines (batch and/or real‑time)

AI fluency – familiarity with integrating AI/ML services, LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, AWS Bedrock), or building AI‑powered features

Demonstrated experience owning and delivering end‑to‑end applications in a production environment

Proven track record of mentoring engineers and contributing to team growth

Experience leading or contributing to POC initiatives and translating outcomes into actionable decisions

Strong understanding of software governance, coding standards, and engineering best practices

What Would Make You Stand Out

Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation)

Familiarity with Apache Spark or other distributed processing frameworks

Experience with dbt, Airflow, or similar data pipeline orchestration tools

Knowledge of MLOps practices and model deployment

Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)

Familiarity with data visualization tools like Qlik Sense, Power BI, Amazon Quick

FOR TORONTO ROLES ONLY

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between CAD 130,000 and CAD 180,000 per year. Actual salaries will be determined on an individualized basis and may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, past performance, and other job‑related factors. Base pay is one part of Fitch’s total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, long‑term incentives, and other benefits sponsored by Fitch.
