Fitch Ratings is seeking a  Lead Software Engineer to join our Innovation teams in Toronto—a greenfield initiative at the forefront of how AI will transform financial analysis. This isn't about incremental improvements to existing systems. This is about building what comes next : agentic systems, intelligent platforms, and capabilities that will fundamentally change how Ratings analysts work and how Fitch delivers insights to global financial markets.

Fitch is at an inflection point with AI. We've built momentum, we have organizational buy-in from the top, and we're making a major strategic bet on Toronto to accelerate everything. You'll work with a dedicated team of technologists building net-new solutions that push boundaries, experiment boldly, and deliver transformative capabilities to the Ratings business. We're looking for seasoned technologists who thrive on greenfield opportunities —whether you're a full-stack engineer excited about AI's potential, an MLE/AI engineer who wants to build production systems, or a technical leader who sees this inflection point for what it is. What You Need to Have:

Deep technical expertise – 15+ years of hands‑on experience building enterprise applications or AI/ML systems, with strong proficiency in modern programming languages, frameworks, and production environments (Java/Springboot/REACT experience highly valued)

Architectural mastery and greenfield experience – Proven track record of designing scalable systems from scratch; deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and the ability to make bold architectural decisions in ambiguous environments

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Innovation and experimentation mindset – Demonstrated history of exploring emerging technologies, building proofs‑of‑concept, learning from failures, and translating experiments into production systems; comfort with ambiguity and rapid change

Leadership and influence – Track record of driving technical decisions, mentoring engineers, leading initiatives in fast‑moving environments, and building credibility through results and vision

AI curiosity or expertise – Genuine excitement about AI's potential to transform workflows; ability to separate signal from noise in emerging technology spaces; hands‑on experience with AI/ML technologies is a significant advantage

Outstanding collaboration and communication – Ability to articulate technical vision to diverse audiences, work effectively with cross‑functional teams, and bring your whole self while remaining open to others' perspectives
