Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop, review, and maintain internal fair valuation models using methodologies such as comparable company analysis, discounted cash flow, and option pricing models.
- Conduct applied research to identify, evaluate, and validate fair valuation models across asset classes including equities, fixed income, currencies, and derivatives.
- Build deep expertise in valuation frameworks for alternative investment structures, including interval funds and private equity funds, with a focus on fair value measurement of underlying illiquid assets.
- Provide complex securities valuation support to Global Pricing teams, including the development of secondary and tertiary validation models for securities priced using broker or dealer quotations.
- Support the audit by clearly articulating valuation methodologies, model assumptions, and key inputs.
- Prepare Valuation Writeups, analyses, and research materials for the Valuation Committee and the Funds’ Boards of Directors or Trustees.
- Partner with Global Pricing teams on periodic deep-dive analyses, valuation reviews, and targeted reporting.
- Participate in vendor due diligence by assessing third‑party valuation methodologies, governance practices, and model robustness.
- Engage in client‑facing discussions, including ad hoc meetings with sub‑advised clients, and interact with senior company executives at CXO levels on valuation matters relevant to Franklin Templeton fund investments.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Mathematics, or another quantitative discipline required.
- An advanced degree (MBA, MS, or PhD) in Business, Finance, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline is preferred.
- Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, or CAIA are preferred.
- 4–7 years of relevant experience in the mutual fund or broader financial services industry, including Valuation, investment management, or investment research and analysis.
- Advanced knowledge of statistical theory, financial instruments, and capital markets.
- Demonstrated ability to apply quantitative, statistical, and mathematical techniques to independent fair valuations of securities, with experience in model development, implementation, risk, valuation, and model validation across structured products, foreign exchange, equities, fixed income, and OTC derivatives.
- Demonstrated experience with database management and programming for valuation model development, including tools such as Excel/VBA and market data platforms such as Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, and Capital IQ.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior leaders and stakeholders including Valuation Committee members, Portfolio Managers, Internal and External Auditors, and Boards of Directors or Trustees.
- Strong ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and balance competing business expectations.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Direct experience on a trading desk or portfolio management team is a plus.
- Experience in complex securities valuation, including MBS, ABS, and CMOs, is highly valued.
- Working knowledge of commonly used valuation models, including Black-Scholes, binomial models, and plain vanilla bond pricing.
- Strong ability to present logical, well-reasoned explanations and confidently defend valuation models, assumptions, and inputs.
