AIG is seeking a Casualty Underwriter to contribute to our industry leading Commercial Casualty underwriting team. AIG prides itself as staying ahead of the curve and is looking for forward thinking and inventive underwriters to navigate a constantly changing global, economic and geopolitical landscape.
In this role, you will gain exposure to a wide range of casualty risks in the Environmental, Construction and Mining segments of our business while developing your underwriting, technical and sales skills. You will be responsible for underwriting and growing a profitable book of Casualty business, servicing an existing renewal portfolio, and generating new business opportunities.
How you will create an impact:
- Review, analyze and underwrite casualty submissions within delegated authority and underwriting guidelines.
- Assist in evaluating claims exposures, coverage requirements, and account profitability
- Analyze claims data and loss trends to support pricing decisions.
- Communicate risk appetite and casualty value proposition to brokers.
- Collaborate with distribution and other line(s) of business underwriters to target desirable accounts and cross selling opportunities from brokers.
- Work with brokers to understand deal structures, terms, and AIG Services that best meets clients’ needs.
- Negotiate pricing, terms & conditions, and deal structure with brokers and clients.
- Develop strong, long-term relationships with brokers and clients to profitably grow a book of business.
- Maintain underwriting files and documentation in accordance with corporate standards.
- Recognize and create cross-selling opportunities for other AIG General Insurance products.
- Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients.
- May require occasional travel to support broker and client relationship.
- Work with center of excellence and/or shared services on policy administration.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree from a college or university, preferred.
- Interest in casualty underwriting, environmental liability, construction or mining risks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with brokers, clients and colleagues.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Detail-orients and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Highly motivated with a willingness to learn and develop technical expertise.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, collaborative work environment.
- A desire to stay up to date with industry, legal & regulatory trends.
- CIP designation or progress toward CIP is considered an asset.
