Job Description
ACCIONA has been awarded the Design and Pre Construction contract as part of the ActivUs consortium. As we continue to grow our Australian infrastructure portfolio, we are seeking an experienced Commercial & Finance Director to join the Wave Stage 1 Greenfield Project leadership team. This is a critical executive role responsible for leading the project’s commercial, financial and project controls functions, ensuring the successful delivery of a major infrastructure project from inception through to completion.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Project Director, you will be a key member of the project leadership team, driving commercial performance, financial governance, risk management and delivery certainty across a large-scale, complex infrastructure project. You will provide strategic leadership across commercial management, finance, procurement, contract administration, cost control, planning, reporting and project controls while supporting the achievement of project objectives, stakeholder expectations and business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all commercial, finance and project controls activities across the project.
- Develop and implement commercial strategies that maximise project performance and protect ACCIONA’s interests.
- Maintain strong client relationships while spearheading the commercial interests of the project, balancing collaborative stakeholder engagement with the successful achievement of commercial objectives.
- Oversee contract management, change management, claims, negotiations and dispute resolution.
- Drive financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial reporting.
- Ensure robust project controls are in place, including cost management, scheduling, performance reporting and earned value management.
- Lead risk and opportunity management processes to support informed decision‑making.
- Partner with the Project Director and senior leadership team to provide strategic commercial and financial advice.
- Oversee procurement and subcontractor commercial performance.
- Ensure compliance with contractual, governance and corporate reporting requirements.
- Build and lead a high‑performing multidisciplinary team across commercial, finance and project controls functions.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Significant experience in a senior commercial, finance or project controls leadership role on major infrastructure, transport, energy or civil construction projects.
- Proven success leading commercial and financial outcomes on projects valued in the hundreds of millions or billions of dollars.
- Strong expertise across contract management, project finance, commercial risk management and project controls.
- Experience working within complex project delivery environments, including Alliances, PPPs, Design & Construct or Joint Venture arrangements.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience managing large, multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Finance, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Economics or a related discipline.
- Professional qualifications such as CPA, CA, RICS or equivalent will be highly regarded.
